How did Calvin even get Dad’s work phone? Or maybe I don’t want to know.

Calvin: “Did you get the stuff?” Dad: “No.” Calvin: “WHY NOT?!” Dad: “Because that would lead too more trouble”.

Dad’s face in panel #4 seems to say: “What?”

Calvin’s dad has MASTERED the post-phone-call double take.

I think this strip is supossed to be about Moe stealing calvins money.

Well, so much for getting any work done this morning.

“Oh, and the big bottle of carpet cleaner.”

I wonder how many times Dad has had to leave work early?

I’m going to assume, from that, that the house is probably still standing.

And where’s your Mother?

Where is Mom?

Be afraid, Dad. Be very afraid.

Poor Dad, now he’ll worry all day…and rightfully so.

Tell me he didn’t just buy Moe.

I think dad might like to go home early from work today, like now!

Always best to bury the evidence, Dad…you should know that!

Maybe dad should just make sign in his front yard – “CAUTION – Calvin at work”

Getting into trouble can be a lot of work sometimes. Satisfying though.

Digging a tunnel to China?

It’s a good thing this is a repeat and we know whatever he’s digging wasn’t for mom.

Could be worse. He could have asked for ‘’Donuts for the Firefighters’’.

At least he didn’t ask Dad to call a tow truck this time.

Wonder how the archaeological expedition went.

Who is he burying? Mom? Suzy? the babysitter? Moe? He is smiling so its NOT Hobbes!!

I hope he knows that digging straight down will bring you up in the middle of the Indian Ocean.

If he has the hand size/strength to carry/swing a full size pick-ax and shovel (cover with mud too, another few pounds) that are twice his size he is the one who should be eating Moe’s lunch.

I’m impressed with his work ethic

At least he didn’t ask for quicklime and a body bag.

This strip would work just as well—maybe even better—if we only saw Calvin’s dad, and the third panel wasn’t there.

Calvin is remarkably industrious at times.

Where’s Hobbes?

Oh, and don’t forget to rent the “Rug Doctor” and buy some carpet solution.

Watterson’s art-work is generally impeccable (except, of course, for the Grim Reaper’s scythe), but what is that thing in Calvin’s hands that isn’t a shovel?

You have to hand it to Calvin. At least he’s thinking about the ramifications of his actions now.

4th panel…. OMHG… lossen the grip of that phone…. or he will need a new one….

Calvin is being very thoughtful. It is the neighbor’s yard he was digging up.

Dad’s reaction in the last panel is exquisite.

I almost forgot about the worst bluestake failure I’ve seen. The bluestaking was done just fine, but the trencher operator thought the orange marking for the 100 pair communication cable was his marking for where to dig! He wasn’t the one who noticed that there was a lot of wire showing up on the top of the trench.
