I love that last panel…kudos to whoever it was who said Doubleup was hiding a smirk. You were spot on.

Nice to see Doubleup has a sense of humor.

I wonder how much time passed between panel 1 and panel 2? Mumbles didn’t even have a chance to change clothes. Will he go to the deli dressed in a tuxedo? I wonder what he said to his date.

That woman must see something in Mumbles I do not see!

In tomorrows strip, there has to be a passing interaction between Doubleup and Mumbles where Doubleup asks him how his date went.

Heading ‘Over the River and Through the Woods’ this afternoon, so I may be absent here for a few days. Everybody be safe, and as Mumbles would put it, “Hpy Tksgvg!”

The look and giggling of Doubleup….both are hallmarks of mischief. Then another off the storyboard and out of our sight…Doubleup: “Better thee than me”.

Mumbles: if I had it to do over again, my phone would have been on silent rather than vibrate.

Oh well…he can mumble sweet nothings in her ear. Maybe she’ll give him a raincheck for another date.

It really tickles me to think that the various deformed criminals of Dick Tracy have their own fairly normal lives, from which they are occasionally called away in order to do bizarre crimes. Poor Mumbles was on a date! He was having a great time with a nice girl! Now he’s gotta follow up on something some other guy screwed up? It’s not right! He doesn’t even get a gimp mask to conceal his identity!

A giggling Doubleup might be the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen in this strip.

This little incident goes way back to 2012 and the Davey Mylar/Mr.Crime story.

Mumbles and Doubleup were locked in the same holding tank and almost came to blows.(“Officer,I’m here to bail those two idiots out”).

Doubleup apparently has a long memory.Have they EVERliked each other?

Also a nice sense of history.Mumbles is wearing the same bow tie and camel’s hair coat that was his favorite wardrobe when he was introduced in 1947.

Wellness check on Dmitroi—-hardly any action at all on Tracy Wiki/Fandom for weeks.

I wonder why Double-up is chuckling to himself.

Since the deli is in on the Apparatus – having a secret door, and password to get upstairs – why not just call the deli and ask, “WTF? Did the woman arrive? What happened?” Why call away Mumbles (which would have taken time) instead of just making the call?

I still don’t get how a big-time outfit like the Apparatus has no clue as to how the hit went down by now, considering that at least several hours have had to pass, & at the very least a “police involved shooting” took place at the deli. Just saying.

that should be “police involved shooting” made at the deli would have made the news by now.

Apparently, DoubleUp finds this all hilariously funny. I guess he bears some grudge against Mumbles, or just plain doesn’t like him. (I don’t think he has designs on the date Mumbles was with in panel 1, who may or may not be his steady girlfriend.)

We shall see what transpires at Marmel’s, I’m sure….

I have the vague impression that Doubleup has been warning The Apparatus that Briar Rose is not to be underestimated, and that he admires her at least a bit. Now the hit man assigned to her demise is awol, perhaps showing that he (Doubleup) had been right. (Of course, we know that Briar would (probably) be on a slab by now if notfor Sam’s intervention.)
