“The difference between liberals and conservatives” reference used in Panel Three: liberals think that the Insurrection of 1/6/2021 was very bad while conservatives think that the Insurrection of 1/6/2021 was good because Trump the Terrible said to do it.
Bill, Hillary and the Democratic Leadership Council. The clowns responsible for turning the Democratic Party from reliably liberal into Republican Lite. For this I will never forgive them.
“I often think it’s comical—Fal, lal, la, Fal, lal, la!/ How Nature always does contrive—Fal, lal, la, la! / That every boy and every gal That’s born into the world alive/ Is either a little Liberal Or else a little Conservative.” – WS Gilbert
I think liberals are the ones shouting and marching on whatever subject you can think of and the conservatives are the ones quietly working and earning wages to pay the taxes to cover the results. Not a dictionary fact, just the way it looks to me.
As a general guideline, conservatives are fundamental elitists, seeing themselves as deserving of special rights and privileges, while liberals strive for equality and responsibility. For example, in the 60s conservatives supported terrorists and dictators to “protect” US business profits as liberals were marching for civil rights and against police abuses. Hmmm, same thing in the 2020s as well.
After some thought, I believe the underlying difference between conservatives and liberal in the long term is their stance on wealth transfer. Conservatives believe wealth transfer destroys the initiative of the lower economic classes while the liberals stance is wealth transfer is needed to enable the lower economic classes to develop their full potential. A more important question maybe is what is the difference between a conservatism and a populism which Trump has made the underlying philology the Republican Party.
One of the best descriptions of conservatives I’ve ever heard came from FDR…“A conservative is someone who despite having two good legs never learned to walk forward.”
Now lots of people think they know the difference, but so much of it is cliche’s, stereotypes, scary talk, rumors, mudslinging, and other meaningless trash tailored to emotional reactions in order to get votes for politicians who serve themselves.
Republicans and conservatives are no longer the same thing. There are conservatives and Trump cult members. According to some Republicans, if you don’t support Trump then you aren’t a Republican (see Liz Cheney) and Trump was not a conservative.
Looking only at the era in which this strip took place (as opposed to the radical right wing shift of today) I remember Bill Clinton being referred to by Michael Moore as the best Republican president America ever had.
One lousy bl*wj*b and the nation is in the toilet. We should be celebrating Presidents Gore, Kerry, Obama, and Clinton II..instead, we have a grotesque parody of a “Supreme Court”, and the country hangs by a thread….
There are no “conservatives”. There are reactionaries (McConnell), and a fair number of fascists (Jordan,Boebert, et al). There are several megalomaniacs (Trump, DeSantis, Greg Abbott).. It’s a pitiful spectacle. Joe, Nancy, and Adam are literally “the last, best hope of Mankind”. Good luck, America…
Moderate Republican Clinton confused a lot of people. That may be the reason Gingrich worked so hard to demonize him. Clinton was trying to take over their turf.
I remember asking my mom this question at Alex’s age. She said Conservatives (politicians) aim to adjust laws so that rich people and corporations have the edge which they believe will end up being better for everyone, and Liberals aim to make laws that are fairer for everybody which they believe will end up being better for everyone.
I have a problem with conservatives who think the 2020 was rigged. After all, they do worship success, don’t they. Shouldn’t they be on the side of the people who successfully staged a coup to get Biden elected and opposed to the failures who screwed up Trump’s counter-coup?
I don’t really see a philosophical difference so much as an economic one: The Reps and Dems support different industry sectors, except when both support the same sector (sarcasm). Neither truly supports the people.

Liberals: Hurry up!
Moderates: Slow down!
Conservatives: Stop!
Reactionaries: Go back!
Anarchists: Burn it all down!
Republicans, SCOTUS, and those who the mainstream media call conservatives are actually reactionaries.

If you’re under 30 and Conservative, you have no heart. If you’re over 30 and Liberal, you have no brains.
