If your aim is “Be the winner” then (maybe) you get a big short thrill. But if your aim is “Enjoy the game” then (maybe) you get a nice short thrill… but you ALSO get quite a bit of enjoyment.
That’s all there is unless we do truly amazing stuff. We should all do truly amazing stuff occasionally to keep a small aura of legend around us. The merely good work will be forgotten when we pass on.
Always nice to win. I remember my son and I playing checker’s, he loved playing that game, he said I had to move to get jumped, his teacher back then said my son would cheat, I told then teacher he loved playing checkers.
The difference between a good boss and a bad boss: a good boss allows you to enjoy that feeling of victory after completing a particularly tricky task. A bad boss immediately piles on another tough one.
My priest told the personal story of the time, when he was a mere lad, when he won a game of Monopoly against his grandmother. The thrill lasted for all of 5 minutes. Then, grandmother told him it was time for him to put all of the pieces back in the box and get ready for bed.

Calvin is “tired of winning” already.

Calvin reminds me of Rose, a character on THE GOLDEN GIRLS, played by the late Betty White.
She was extremely competitive, and out to win at ANY cost.
When she (and Sophia) won a bowling match, her reaction was the same as Calvin’s!!

The thrill of victory is heady, but short lived. Laurels are overrated and make for an uncomfortable seat.

Considering he believes a giant statue and a parade is warranted for the poster contest, I wonder what Calvin is expecting here.
