Sad that the constipation in the Senate is preventing any solutions to the messes the former guy left behind. But I think the estimate of 130,000 extra deaths is much too kind. It’s even beginning to look like the mad rush to vaccines before the election didn’t produce the best ones, though that should have been predictable.

(But yes, I’m taking whatever vaccines I can get. Last time was Pfizer, even though I would have preferred Moderna on the data that was available at that time. Unlike the GQPers, I’m going to do and keep doing whatever I can do to protect other people’s lives.)

P.S. I think Manchin is just greedy for more money, but I’m convinced Sinema is being blackmailed. Increasingly clear she’s terrified of something—and her political career is over, too. So after that the blackmailer will release the dirt just for grins.

This brief examines how deaths from COVID-19 rank among other leading causes of death in the U.S. We find that COVID-19 was the third leading cause of death in November 2021. We also find that in October, COVID-19 was the number 1 cause of death for people age 45-54 and in the top 7 leading causes of death for other age groups, aside from infants.

We also estimate that 163,000 COVID-19 deaths could have been prevented by vaccination since June 2021, when safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines were widely available to all adults in the U.S.

Binge-reading old Doonesbury collections recently (one of which had a forward by William F. Buckley, of all people), I came across one in which Duke was trying to get Trff’s country into the Winter Olympics. (Trff was still dictator at the time.) Duke told him that there was a town with no roads, so all the people there were excellent cross country skiers and could make the Olympic team. Trff told him, “I bombed and destroyed that town.” “Why?” “The people kept complaining that there weren’t any roads!”

And, for the record, the number of preventable Covid deaths is still quite high precisely and exactly BECAUSE of Traitor Trump’s decision to politicize a virus for his own perceived benefit. (He wouldn’t have cared the tenth part of a damn if the death toll were in the MILLIONS, as long as he was re-elected.) Ironically, in the fair, free, honest, and legitimate election of 2020, Trump lost largely BECAUSE of his historic and tragic complete botch of handling Covid.
