What Janis needs is an undercover operative to solve this problem.

I think an offer for her to move over next to you to warm up would have been better. It seems a little late at this point.

In the last panel Janis looks like Punxsutawney Phil checking to see if there will be 6 more weeks of winter.

I take it Janis is not wearing her flannel jammies? Any jammies? And she has Arlo warm up the sheets. I like this arc.

Since your temperature sensors are near the surface of the skin, fat isolates them and you feel colder.

Fat is not an insulator. But it does help you float, if that’s any comfort.

There’s no correlation. In one of the offices where I used to work, some of the fattest women were the ones that wore extra layers and/or brought in space heaters because they were “cold” all the time. Meanwhile we men were roasting.

I was fat – then I was thin (down to 105 lbs – I am short) and then back up with a few more downs – never again that low – and ups. I was always hot. Husband would argue with me as I would not wear a coat until it was in the 30Fs and then it was left open – it would not be closed until sometime in the teens.

About a 10 years ago I lost weight again (and this time has stayed off – though still not thin, just no longer obese), at about the same time I went through menopause and the doctor said I had low thyroid (which is suppose to make make one feel cold) and I started taking meds to bring it up to normal thyroid (which should mean that thyroid was not making me cold). I suddenly became freezing cold all the time. Not sure which one of these things or if the combination of them caused me to be so cold. Husband will take my hand when it is hot outside and be shocked at how cold my hands are. (Does not seem to be a circulation problem.)

I found out the hard way a couple of years ago that if one is freezing cold and the actual weather that one outside in is in the 80Fs – one just has put up with it as wearing a sweatshirt (something in the old days I would not do until it was in the 50Fs) in that temperature can cause heatstroke – even as one is still cold. He either tells me what the temperature is or I look at the outdoor thermometer we have to dress appropriately for the weather.

He also has a rule for me – If I am feeling comfortably warm, it means that I need to put on the air conditioner until I feel cold again or I will get sick from the high temperature in the house that I do not realize exists.
