What also happens as we shrink with age is our center of gravity shifts — one of the reasons why oldsters seem more unsteady on their feet. We tend to lean forward when walking for balance which tends to curve our spine and leads to more stress on the spine and back muscles, which makes us feel more unbalanced (so we lean farther forward). One thing to help with this is to strengthen the front shoulder muscles: While standing or sitting, pull the shoulders back (push out the chest) and then pull them forward several times a couple of times a day and that helps strengthen the front muscles. It won’t make one taller, but it will help keep one straighter.
I lost a little over 1 1/2 inches due to 3 burst discs. That was not fun at all. Demerol in the butt ever 4 hours and percocet every 4 hours spaced in 2 hour intervals.
When me and the now-wife were dating 36-some odd years ago, I was 6’2", and she 5’8". Now I’m 6-even, and somewhere’s the wife is now 5’4". (P.S. : My Dad was still here back-then, and he warned me that would happen after marriage, since the 4-inch heels “bait” was no longer needed t’ keep the “hook”-set.) Man, how DID-he know that’d happen…???

Last I checked, I’m six even. I can hardly wait to shrink a little.

My mother used to be 5 foot one, when she died at 99 and 9 months she was 4 foot 8.

I used to be 72 inches but now I’m only 70 inches. Sigh…

My overall height has gone from 5’7" to 5’6", but my legs are the same length as they were. Kinda weird.

Over time the spare tire in the front pulls the spine out of place ;-)

Remember when Andy hung Barney in the closet to pass his physical? I’m trying a daily variation on that.

Although I understand shrinkage is normal, I went from a 34" inseam to a 32" on my slacks. Can’t explain that.

If you used to have a 36 inch waist but now have a 56 inch waist, you’re a plugger.

In high school I was 6’3". During my last Dr.‘s visit, I was barely 6’.

For a Plugger, height, among other things, shrink with increasing age. The waist on the other hand, can go either way.

That’s what happens when you change height into width. :)

Lose a couple of inches in height and gain it around the middle.

It’s not lost, it’s just redistributed.
contralto2b over 2 years ago
Yep, that’s happening to me. From 5’6½" inches to 5’6" inches. But then, my feet are longer and wider, so maybe that’s where it’s going. Hmmm

I just got my BMI from obese to just overweight. If they re-measure my height I might be obese again.
Bruce1253 over 2 years ago
That height is still there, its just moved lower. In Physics its called Conservation of Mass.

I used to be just a hair under 6’2". When I went down to 6’ even, I decided I’d stop looking any more. There’s just no upside to it. :>)
