Some qualities of a good teacher include skills in communication, listening, collaboration, adaptability, empathy and patience. Other characteristics of effective teaching include an engaging classroom presence, value in real-world learning, exchange of best practices and a lifelong love of learning.
Frank, you said your daughter is a good listener? Nice of you to try to comfort her, but she is never a good listener. She has selective hearing. Had she caught Axel’s double entrendes the first day, she might have handled him better. Because she did not listen, she was oblivious to the fact that Axel was aiming to hook an older girl until he tried to kiss her. Axel was embarrassed when she did not return in kind so he quit Homework Helpers. Luann needs to learn to listen, not just what she wants to hear. She needs to listen to her parents and friends who care about her, and not just selectively hear words she wants to hear and static everything else.
No Frank, her humor is good and it works perfectly. I’m so happy to see him try to comfort her daughter with love and show how proud he’s of her and believes in her♡. This is something you don’t see often and Luann needs it a lot, expeciall now.
Frank, it’s time to explain to Luann that Axel was hitting on her and he quit because she turned him down (without knowing it, apparently) and not because she’s a lousy teacher.
If Luann had known Axel was hitting on her, she’d be talking about that and not blaming herself for something that clearly wasn’t her fault.
Since LuAnn has no self discipline, she can’t expect to instill it or any discipline on students, especially those that aren’t keen on school to start with like Axel.
Those are all things a teacher—or any entertainer or physician or any professional—pretty much need to one degree or another. But a teacher must have one essential skill: the ability to take someone through a path of growing knowledge by helping the student to avoid the common pitfalls and to embrace what’s valuable; to take them through a curriculum and to help them know how to practice learning. Enthusiasm or personableness—alone—can’t do that.
Having Axel as your first one-on-one “student” would be enough, IMO, to drive anyone away from a career of teaching.
Hopefully, even with this unfortunate experience, Luann will continue to pursue this career path for herself. I do think that teaching could be a good career choice for Luann, and feel it does suit her talents and interests.
Even though, I suspect it is only a pipe dream…. I am hoping the last two days sans Axel means that neither Axel nor Faye will be continuing in this arc. I think it would be nice for Luann to continue in this arc but have her talk or work through the situation with others.
O.K., Frank. Time to leave the sarcastic remarks behind. Give her a little encouragement here. If a smart a$$ dummy like me can lovingly encourage daughters at they begin their adult life … so can you.
I give Frank a round of applause for being positive here. It probably would have helped if he had actually engaged in a conversation with Luann, instead of a monologue, but of course, that wouldn’t be as funny!

Listen to Dad Luann he is very right and teaching is a profession, skill, and commitment all of which you have, but you must believe in yourself first

Luann is a conflicted character. Always Trying to do good, but lacking the situational awareness needed with being a good friend.

Cripes.
The one time Frank is shown being encouraging and supportive of his daughter, and he’s depicted as wasting his breath.
Well, I guess that’s the ”THANKS” you get, Frank.
You as well wake Luann up and tell her to go clean up her room.
