At first, I thought that the “early toons” might have been earlier versions of our friends? But then realized there are too many in the scene. UNLESS…if they are versions of others that were lost in the preceding chaos?
Running around in the realities in the mind of Aaron….who happens to be a cartoon enthusiast. Even the tigers refer back to an old now banded children story…..how a kid using his wits outsmarted vicious hungry arrogant tigers. Little Black Sambo……. which was also a cartoon created in 1935 by Ub Iwerks.
I’m assuming that Marx has been in this particular “Sub-Reality” before, to know that it has great beer. I’m also assuming he has an encyclopedic memory, to recognize where he is and remember this sub-reality “ID code number”. How many are there? Judging by that lengthy designation, quite a few.
I’m not too keen on his laughing at them, amusing himself at their expense. Get on with it, Marx, and stop tormenting them!
Man, Marx just keeps on stressing them out. It’s a wonder they have any sanity left at all. All three of them look ready to assume the fetal position and wait for it all to be over.
Terrence looks like he’s going to start sucking his thumb. Duffy’s freaking out bigtime. Albert is perturbed by the pint-sized pachyderm nearby. Aaron Marx keeps nattering on. The expression on the tigers’ faces in the second panel are hilarious, especially the one sticking his tongue out at Marx.
Every tiger has a different expression. Love the Otto Mesmer style Felix (not the nose) hands behind back in his CharLie Chaplin walking pose. Felix is public domain now. Not sure aBout Ignatz type mousies.
One: Particularly today, Marx looks like he‘s wearing clown make-up. Panel one, that‘s some serious lip gloss!
Two: Coyoty tells Wendy that Marx is honing these characters the way he honed Wally. Seeing what happened to Wally, that does not look like a good thing.
Three: This strip is seriously not the same now that Wally‘s gone.
Hope Aaron makes something happen, and soon. We already lost our favorite hero. Hope we don’t lose the story, too!
Marx’s breezy acceptance of his own missteps just reminds us that change is inevitable. Our dear boys should, and do, look totally gobsmacked by the turn of events which Marx just equates to having time to enjoy a great beer. That bit about a "titch of body snatching (Re. Wally’s essence?) is yet to come.
I had to go back 2 strips to see where the cane was that Marx reached back to get. Talk about attention to detail in this strip. I have to read them 2 or 3 times and read all the comments just to pretend I get it all.
This probably won’t be popular here, but, as much as I admire the artwork and clever dialogue, I really wish we could move on with the story. We’ve hardly moved for two months now. There – I’ve said it!

You’re a genuis at making the toons so familiar, but not “name brand”. And the tigers’ faces as Marxx zips them out are to die for!

Hey, as long as they have good beer.
Is Duffy old enough to drink? Does it matter?

If it’s out of focus, just hit the side of the set a few times. That’ll fix the vertical hold as well.
