And living on the US/Canadian border always means two nights (the 1st and 4th).

A dialog balloon with an internal pointer. That’s different.

Around here, individuals can set off their own fireworks. The city has rules about dates & times, but the county doesn’t. I live near the city limits, so random explosions are the norm. Last night one of my dogs was glued to my leg while the other tried to crawl under the couch. But thunderstorms are worse.

Now that’s the living breathing Olsen, without the teacher personna. And I’m with her. Sometimes it’s about making noise just for the sake of it.

I have a neighbor who’s been setting them off since Friday night. And Thursday we had a thunderstorm. The pets in the neighborhood must all be traumatized by now.

It’s not just different municipalities- the town, the ballpark, the country club all have fireworks on different days, all within ear range of Mrs. Olson’s dog.

If Mrs. Olsen walked as much as her doctor advised, maybe it wouldn’t be theoretical.

I myself live within easy earshot (just a few blocks) of four different municipalities, not counting the one I live in. That’s not to say that they all put on big fireworks displays that are audible to me, however.

To all those dog owners, whose dogs bark at 7am when I’m still trying to sleep due to my work shift, just think of it as revenge…

What is the point of firecrackers? Noise for noise’s sake. Nothing pretty to ooh and ahhh over, just noise. I suppose it’s a guy thing, like loud motorcycles.

While I attended the 1973 National Scout Jamboree ($75,000 – in 1973 dollars; that would be $493,500 today – in about an hour, with a 15-minute finale), and so am just a bit jaded toward fireworks displays (, especially small-town ones, I still love to watch them; not a thing wrong with noise for noise’s sake – especially when they have cool visual effects.

But yeah – my poor pups never liked them anywhere as much as I.

BTW, for those also attended, I was in PA, not ID; am I correct in assuming they something similar at Farragut?

Funny, Frazz is still using the crochety old person as the complainer, where the sensitive young person is the norm today.

My dog is mostly blind and deaf. It is my goats, chickens, and bunnies I have to worry about. The cats mostly come in the bedroom and try to hide under the covers with me.

We’ve been hearing fireworks for the past week, and plan on them over the next week. Can’t forget those half price M-80’s.

I am conflicted here – I love fireworks, but I understand the feelings of those with pets. We had a lovely local display here up at the top of our backyard hill last night (school ball fields) and we really enjoyed it; however, our cat went to the basement like he does with thunderstorms. I see both sides – we’ll be going to a draft league baseball game tonight and seeing our 4th fireworks at the field after the game. This is the most appropriate setting — professional and pet free.

The family of raccoons that lives out back are currently hiding under the neighbor’s deck and trembling. It’s really pitiful.
