Tracy does look offended in P.3. No one has mentioned this but her hair color bands look conspicuously like flag colors of a currently war torn nation.
“Going home in two days.” So, Tracy does have a time limit on his stay in New Moon Valley … you’d think he’d show a little more urgency in uncovering the plot.
What I see here is a youngish woman trying to find comfort in the midst of her very real grief and getting the signals all mixed up in the process. She misinterpreted Dick being kind and gentle with her (as he and most real “gentlemen” would be anyway) for something more personal, and made a huge mistake about it. Dick is doing the best he can to let her down gently but firmly. He could have got very angry and clearly understands her conflict. But that was never going to be an easy conversation for him.
That’s just excellent writing for such a short sequence in a comic strip, and the emotions in the drawing are really raw and in our faces. Brilliant work team.
Tracy is a gentleman, and faithful. Well done. Although I feel for Marina. Having my share of broken relationships, all destroyed by my ADHD. It hurts, but we must move on to heal and try again.
That poor young lady is clearly hurting and making poor decisions. She needs counseling more than she needs, ahem, Dick.
But Dick doesn’t need to run off like some scared schoolgirl. Telling her “No” and then skee-daddling probably left her feeling stupid and unwanted. No, he can’t have that kind of relationship with her, but he can still provide support.
1-DT: Marina, please! I find you very unappealing. Ugly. Disgusting even…
2- …Nothing personal but…
3- …I have my standards and you DOUBLE “D” DON’T meet them – if you catch my drift. So, see ya around. I gotta an early flight in two days. Gotta rest up. Don’t call or bawl, babe.
I can see sympathy for Marina as far as she’s a grieving widow who is hurting, and perhaps she didn’t know Tracy is married,. But when he tells her he is, her response of “she’s not here” leaves me cold. What does that mean exactly – cheating is ok if you don’t get caught? She needs to ask herself how she would feel if the situation were reversed.
Oh, man, what a tear-jerker episode in this soap opera-like NMV saga. Poor Marina. I do feel sorry for the young widow (and, being a single guy, maybe a tinge of l*st, too). At least Tracy is true-blue in his devotion to Tess Trueheart Tracy!
I guess I don’t really understand Marina’s tears coming so easily. I think she’s manipulating (or was trying to) Dick Tracy. Do the moon valley people have some form of mind control at their disposal, or is it telepathy only?
Contrary to what some have said, Dick needed to get away from Marina and did the right thing walking away. He had become part of her problem, and is not in a position to offer any emotional support for multiple reasons. That needs to be someone else who is caring and objective, and not inside her emotional firestorm.

Good morning™, everybody!
You have to feel a little sorry for Marina, but she did kind of take unfair advantage of the situation. Anyway, Tess didn’t have any reason to worry.
