Ben and the wife came back to the small Pennsylvania town so the kids could meet their grandfather and uncle. Now, they couldn’t wait to get on the first ship back to London.
The artist actually had her put her foot up on the cushion, hoping for a flash of ankle! I had heard this was done but here’s proof. However the lady wasn’t having any, as you can see.
Defining good art is quite a conundrum. / What’s good for one is awful for some. / Just one look at this / Illustration of familial bliss / Gives new meaning to the definition of boredom!
To say that Uncle Silas and Grandpa Ezra were embarrassed by the opulence and English fashion of nephew Benjamin and his family would be an understatement. How far the Wests had strayed from the simple Pennsylvanian Quaker lifestyle made it uncomfortable just sitting in the same room with them.

I think it was “Bizarro” that once showed a similarly clad man at a cafe, telling the waitress, “I’d like to try something different today. Do you have any Lutheran oats?”
If this woman’s thighs are as big as they appear to be in this portrait, I pity whichever of these pencil legged men fathered that child; he risked having his spine snapped during the conception.

Ben West’s clan gathers glum, none conversing.
(At least two sit there silently cursing.)
The new babe is adored
but they’re all deathly bored.
They can’t wait ‘til he wakes and starts nursing.

The rest of the family are visibly upset when they learned it’ll be about four years before the child can do any decent work on the farm.
