I’ve had a few of those. Thankfully, there were no casualties.

There’s nothing to be done but get up. Go to the refrigerator and make an enormous 7-layer Dagwood sandwich. Milk, if you like. I prefer the satisfying BELCH !!! of a cold lager.

No known cure? I’d beg to differ.

“Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

    -Jesus, Matthew 11:29, 30

Is a worry bomb better or worse than an earworm?

I don’t have this problem often, but when I do, I read my GoComics at midnight. That helps burn off time that I would have used, regardless, in the morning.

I hate it when that happens. And I really hate it when I have to get up in the middle of the night and then the worrybomb goes off when I’m trying to get back to sleep.

It is not the worry that usually gets me but the random thoughts. The other night my brain decided to go through entire periodic table, alphabetically. First by name then by symbol. How do you turn that off!?

“When I’m worried and I can’t sleep / I count my blessings instead of sheep / And I fall asleep counting my blessings.

“When my bankroll is getting small / I think of when I had none at all / And I fall asleep counting my blessings.” From the movie White Christmas; music and lyrics by Irving Berlin (1954).

Back in my working / engineering days, solutions to tough problems were solved somehow by my brain during a night’s sleep. Many years before, Alfred E. Neuman taught me that.

My worry-bombs are thinking about all the things that I need to get done. Then I can’t sleep and am too tired the next day to get everything done that I needed to get done. Then I try to sleep but …YIKES!

Meditation and other forms of guided relaxation help a lot. Or at least I have found this to be the case. Simply slowing your breathing rate (down to under 10 breaths per minute)can have a profound relaxation effect.

I tend to listen to boring youtube audiobooks and lectures in bed to keep my brain occupied as I fall asleep.
