But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” – Isaiah 40:31
Went pickerel fishing with a buddy this summer. We were sipping on a beer on a hot afternnoon looking at the lake when a bald eagle alighted on the last branch of an old pine tree just across from our little bay. Kept us company for close to an hour. I would have traded away all of my friend’s beer for a pair of binoculars.
We often aspire to the first panel but, depending on the situation, mostly resemble the middle pair. If anyone has a chance to get there, it’s Caulfield, at least mentally, so long as he is not enticed off course by the false promises of easy pickings.
I want to fly like an eagle, to the sea, fly like an eagle let my spirit carry me I want to fly like an eagle, till I’m free… Time keeps on slippin’ slippin’ slippin’ into the future…

Real pilots practice touch and go to get a feel for takeoffs and landings.

And I dream I’m an eagle, And I dream I can spread my wings, Flying high, high, I’m a bird in the sky, I’m an eagle that rides on the breeze (ABBA)

Humans live in about a 2½-dimensional world. The vertical isn’t all that significant for us. Not so for birds.

The only superpower I’ve ever wanted is the ability to FLY.

Flying is one thing. Being high up on the ‘pecking order’ is also significant. (Your Monday pun.)

Fly me to the moon
Let me play among the stars
Let me see what spring is like
On a-Jupiter and Mars
In other words, hold my hand
In other words, baby, kiss me

Eagles may soar, but weasels don’t get sucked into jet engines.

Yes, turkeys can fly. Just not the domesticated ones. The wild ones prefer the ground, but can get into trees if the need arises.

I would also want the superpower ability to land. “Take-offs are optional. Landings are mandatory.”

Not much of a joke today. Maybe Jef was in a hurry.
