One of the interesting speculations arising from Einstein’s Theory of Relativity is that the Universe may not in fact be flat but rather curved. If it’s curved one way, parallel lines will eventually meet; if it’s curved the other way, parallel lines will eventually diverge. This is sort of like the way lines of longitude on the Earth’s surface all converge at the poles, except it would happen in all 3 dimensions.
