Hobbes reads Calvin’s comic books anyway but this time Calvin is actually lending one to Hobbes!
It has been noted before that Hobbes sometimes reads one of Calvin’s comic books before Calvin and therefore knows what happens in it when Calvin doesn’t. This is just one example of how Hobbes knows things Calvin doesn’t know.
The looks on Cal’s face are priceless. The disgusted look in panel #1 the mightily angry look in #3 and the even angrier #4. Calvin screaming in one of my favorite images in C&H
I think many of us follow Calvin because he is the expression of many feelings and attitudes we had when very young but never expressed openly and still remember even seventy five years later.

Santa might give you 60% credit.

And you just lost points for darning Santa, Calvin. Keep up the good work!

hang in there, Calvin; it’s only four more days

Give up, Calvin. You aren’t going to get on the “nice” list this year. And probably not for many years.

Tongs in the hands of a clumsy person can be dangerous. He might rip a page.

Actually, acts of kindness that are difficult for the performer do count…but the attitude and motivation are everything.

Now Cal decides to be neat. His room is a wreck and his mind is all static electricity, but he gets bombed over how one handles his comic books.

Not going to happen, Calvin…

Calvin is beginning to sound like a lawyer. It’s only a matter of time before the Supreme Court hears the case of Calvin v. Santa.
I don’t think it will turn out like the Miracle on 34th Street.

Philippians 2:14 Calvin. “Do everything without grumbling or arguing,”

If somebody does that to me, I’d burn the comic in front of them just to teach him a hard lesson!

How does Hobbes use tongs? Does he have opposable thumbs?
joegeethree about 2 years ago
Spontaneous? Not so much.

Nope. If your good deed ends by your yelling at the ungrateful recipient, it doesn’t really count.

As a child, I remember bargaining with God the same way Calvin bargains with Santa…

Hobbes could use a pair of white gloves, like the ones Mutt and Jeff wear.

No, they don’t. They really don’t.

Gosh! I’d almost forgot how hard it is to be so nice, but then I turned on the news.

Reluctant acts of goodwill should count for more – they’re so much more difficult.

You are never going to make the good list, Calvin.

Oh wow, Calvin’s face in the first panel looks so unnatural for him. Then again, he’s also ACTING unnatural.

Sheldon would really blow a gasket when Howard or Leonard touched his comic books without gloves on.

Clean hands and Mylar bags I’m down with, but the people that put on cotton gloves are silly.

Reluctant good deeds would make Santa reluctant to consider a good deed. Love Hobbes in third panel.

In the good old days, comics were indeed prized possessions.
