I actually really liked a lot of Seinfeld, but boy was the finale a letdown. By the way, Iām pretty sure āmaster of your own domainā means something specific in that showā¦
A major cultural event at the time. Not sure how many younger people today even know Seinfeld beyond it being a show they hear mentioned every once in a great while but theyāve never watched it themselves.
I remember where I was for the finale of Seinfeld: at home, in front of my TV doing what I did whenever Seinfeld was on ā NOT watching Seinfeld. Couldnāt stand the show or the characters on it.
Wowā¦ am I the only person here whoāll admit to watching Seinfeld?
I dislike most sitcoms, and donāt even watch TV any moreā¦ but I liked that show because the humor was so low-keyā¦ not dumbed down or blatant, and the characters were so unlovable.
I didnāt care for Kramer cos he was too over-the-top clownish; I liked the more subtle stuff.
But I did think the finale pretty much suckedā¦ even Jerry Seinfeld has said he regrets it now.
ā¦
I still occasionally watch YouTube videos of bits of itā¦ and of Curb Your Enthusiasm, where Seinfeld creator Larry David plays himself, as an even more despicable antihero.
No accounting for taste.
ā¦
And yeahā¦ āmaster of his domainā applies to a very specific thing, letās say, an impulse resolution, that you wouldnāt see mentioned on most sitcoms, especially back then.
The characters informally contested to control it, in one episode.
You can google it, cos Iāll say no moreā¦ but āBe This Guyā references it, in the first comment above.
I assure you I donāt know where I was on the night of the last āSeinfeld.ā The only thing Iām sure of is that I was not watching āSeinfeld.ā
Hell, I donāt even remember where I was during the last episode of M*A*S*H. I do remember there was too much Hawkeye angst and too little ācomedyā.
Interestingly, right after the āMaster of my own domainā show was aired was when I started watching the show. At work the next day, everyone was talking about it, so I decided to give it a try. Easily not among the best comedy seriesā, but OK.
For all the people crowing about how you never watched Seinfeld or think it was stupid, who cares? You are in the minority. You just make more noise.
āSeinfeld is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential sitcoms of all time. TV Guide named it the greatest TV show of all time in 2002 and in 2013, the magazine ranked it as the second-greatest TV show. A 2015 The Hollywood Reporter survey of 2,800 actors, producers, directors, and other industry people named Seinfeld as their #5 favorite show. In 2022, Rolling Stone ranked Seinfeld as the sixth-greatest TV show of all time.It has been ranked among televisionās best shows in publications such as Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone and TV Guide.ā It was the highest rated show for two seasons including its last. It was #2 in two other seasons and #3 in another after starting slow. The individual awards are too many for me to list but it is one of the most decorated shows in television history. So you didnāt watch it or like it? So what?

Seinfeld is probably the greatest show ever. Each episode a masterclass. Surprised at the lack of love for it considering this is a comics site!

I attended an actual ālast Seinfeld episodeā party. Not that Iām proud of that.
I get why those of our generation might be more inclined to appreciate Seinfeldian humor.

I have no idea where I was on the night of the last Seinfeld.
I also have no idea when Seinfeld was on, since I only watched pieces and parts of it while channel surfing, looking for something Good to watch.
