More nuclear power plants actually is the answer. With the exception of hydro, it’s the cleanest from of reliable energy. With the rising reliance on electricity, we really need more nuclear plants.
We pretend that we have any control over any of this, we don’t. The world population today is 7+ times greater than when the industrial revolution started and the beginning/triggering of the purported climate changes. Even then, most of the 1 Billion people were not industrialized. We are now at 7.8 Billion and climbing fast. Even if you reduce carbon emissions to a small percentage of what they are today per person, it won’t matter.
This orb which we inhabit will be just fine; it is literally older than dirt and has emerged the Victor throughout all sorts of calamitous events. People will have a rough go of it but throughout the ages, we too have proved amazingly resilient. We always find a way to achieve.
I’m afraid the only solution, morally fraught though it is, is to reverse population growth. It’s physically impossible to wring more resources out of the planet, and it’s socially and politically impossible to convince people who are used to a certain standard of living that they should accept being pushed into poverty. The pie can’t get bigger and no one’s willing to take a narrower slice, so we need to cut it into fewer slices.
Nuke, nuke, nuke, nuke, nuke Putin. Nuke, nuke, nuke, nuke, nuke Putin. Nuke Putin. Yes, that’s my plan. You got me rocking and a rolling. Keep those bombs a going. Nuke Putin. Nuke, nuke, nuke, nuke Putin. Apologies to The Beach Boys and Barbara Ann.
I recently watched On The Beach, movie from 1959 depicting the world after 1964 nuclear war. The northern hemisphere had been destroyed by bombs and radiation fallout. People in the southern hemisphere are lining up for suicide pills as the fallout is quickly drifting south. The consensus was that the war was accidental – one country panicked and pushed the button, leading the other countries to push their buttons. With North Korea playing with missiles, will that be our future?
As someone who worked 44 years in agriculture entomologist, consultant, and am told by those civilians who sit and stare at their phones and drink coffee all day that we were destroying the planet, yet never saw or knew one thing about actual food production, pesticide development, genetics, or farming. And it applies to all sectors. And its our world of experts today.
