How do you annoy a poet? Be another poet.

Local paper has a hunting/fishing columnist who is interesting writing about his adventures and town history. Once a year his wife writes a humorous column about him on Father’s Day.

Doggerel – poetry that is irregular in rhythm and in rhyme, often deliberately for burlesque or comic effect

Some of the best cowboys became those old barfly duffers sitting on the western tavern porches. Chill Wills, Gabby Hayes, and Smiley Burnette were tweeners.

    A cowboy’s a mindset,

    No cattle required,

    Earl’s somewhat like thet,

    As a poet inspired

Here’s som ChatGPT-generated cowboy poetry. Opal’s much better.

    “The Lone Rider”

Ridin’ through the dusty plains,With the wind in my hair,My trusty steed by my side,And my hat tipped low, I stare.

The sun beats down on my back,As I make my way alone,Through the vast and endless land,That I call my home.

I’ve got a gun by my side,And a heart full of pride,I’m a cowboy, through and through,Ridin’ free, with nothin’ to hide.

I’ll sing my songs ‘round the campfire,And tell my tales with glee,For I am the lone rider,And the wild west is where I’ll be.

As the stars come out above,And the moon lights up the night,I’ll ride off into the distance,With the wind in my eyes, and my heart full of fight.

For I am the cowboy,The lone rider on the range,With my horse and my hat,And my spirit free, I’ll never change.
