Thank goodness that in my day and in my kidsâ days there were no such things as these useless certificates.
It was only the mark on your test and on your exam that mattered.
The marks were posted on the bulletin board and there was a thick red line above 74% and below 75%⌠The eighth grade homeroom teacher put that line above 79% and below 80%. The kids whose mark was above 90% had their tests posted beside the marks for all to see the comment from the teacher. Nowadays it is unheard of to be congratulated on oneâs high marks in school.
I have two sons, one smart one athletic. The smart one had straight Aâs all through elementary school, the athletic one got the Presidential Physical Fitness award a few times. The physical award was announced during assemblies, but the other was never acknowledged. Why might you ask? Because the school didnât want to demean students who werenât as smart but that had no problem demeaning ones who werenât athletic.
In the school I went to the didnât have student of the month, week, year, etc when I was in there in the 80âs and I graduated in 1991, but they do now and they post them in the local newspaper witht he students with their certificates and it is done for all the grades. One thing they did have and still do is close to the end of the school year they have a âhonorâs banquetâ for senoirs who were graduating with honors and high honors, they had a meal and your parents and siblings could come and then after everyone ate the gave out the certificates and any scholorships the student got for their grades. I was happy to be able to attend the honors banquet in my senior year because I was on the honor roll every semester in my junior and senior year and graduated 23rd out of class of 120.
