You call THAT playing doctor? What about making him wait two hours before she gives him a referral to a specialist?

ā€œWellness Visitā€ is a Medicare term, very technical. Janis isnā€™t interested in the technicalities.

2021 Study: ā€œThe study surveyed 1,000 U.S. men ages 18 years and above and found that, in the past year, almost half (45%) had not visited a family doctor or general practitioner for an annual wellness visit or checkup.ā€ Main reason? The Dr. might tell me I have medical problems.

Is this the first time weā€™ve received an official hint of their age? Weā€™ve wondered for years about their ā€œworkā€, or lack thereof. Years ago I remember them both talking about their jobs, but since then no mention of work, but plenty of free time. I also remember Janis fussing about gray hairs. What comes next? Gray hair for Arlo? Meg graduating high school? Gus passing on?Another question, if theyā€™re retired why doesnā€™t Jimmy ā€œarcā€ some stories about them sailing in their boat? And I always worry about how the kids are doing? ;o)

About eight years ago, I thought that I would stop going for the wellness visits because they took too much time away from work at the office. Now, Iā€™m glad that I decided to go that day. Thatā€™s all Iā€™ll say.

As it was explained to me, the annual wellness visit is something required by Medicare. I never saw any purpose to it, just the same questions my doctor asks me anyway. More intrusion into our lives by the gummint!

So Iā€™m lying in a room at a local hospital on a cold stainless steel table completely naked except for a thin white sheet waiting on my heart doctor to arrive to perform a heart catherization. There are several medical folks standing around chit chatting when all of the sudden a phone on the wall starts ringing. I raise up a little and in a shaky voice ask," Is that the governor"? It got a pretty good laugh.

Reminds me of a party pastime in the ā€˜your place or mineā€™ 70s: Drinking tequila from someoneā€™s navel. Nowadays that sounds so un-hygienic. And impossible if itā€™s an outie.

I have met some men who had prostate cancer metastasize, and they are going to die. I had a lady Doctor, and she detected my cancer so early,it didnā€™t show up on one of their several tests. I feel badly for those poor macho types who refused to get the exam. Get a Lady Doctor. Cancer is an ugly ,painful way to die!

Unfortunately where procedures are done can make a big difference in how one feels about going. My mom has heart trouble. My sister is her primary caretaker and until Covid came along, we were her schleppers ā€“ taking her to doctors and such as we only work VERY part time and my sister still works full time.

We have taken mom a couple of times to get scanned for blood clots. The doctorā€™s office is a shared office with other heart doctors ā€“ he is the only one who does vein work ā€“ and is located at an outpatient facility of a large hospital chain. First time we went appointment was made with wrong doctor ā€“ one of the non-vein ones and then it was only for vein related problems ā€“ and we had to wait in the waiting room an hour and a half before we found out. My sister (BIL goes to this doctor) screamed at them on the phone and they were able to fit my mom in ā€“ 3 hours later. So we took out to Barnes and Nobles to spend time. They also could not understand why a woman in a wheelchair could not ā€œhop upā€ onto the table on which the test will be done . She is very definitely in pain often during the scans.

This past October I had bad muscle spasm in my leg which took over a month to completely go away. (Leg muscle spams are common to me since a virus in my leg as a child ā€“ but not of any extended duration.) In reading about leg spasms I read that a blood clot in the leg could seem to be a spasm and went to our doctor. (A normal doctor with his own office and staff.) He had the same concern as I did ā€“ but did not think it was other a spasm. So off we went for what I figured would be painful process a local radiology lab. Totally different than momā€™s scans. Waited less than 10 minutes to go in. Table was more than low enough for even mom to get onto easily from wheelchair. No pain at all.

I really wish mom could go there instead ā€“ but the other doctor is the hero who saved my BILā€™s life and she has to go there to the office from heck.
