I’m with goat. Several of the news source, which used to be news papers, has turned into total click bait nonsense. Not like outright lies, but they will take news from elsewhere in the world and have headlines that “forget” include location so you think it is something local. Or they will report on some crime with headlines like it just happened, only they do also when the trial for the criminal starts and when there is a verdict.I’ve stopped paying attention to those sites and instead become a subscriber to a real newspaper online, one with actual journalists and management with integrity and pride in what they do.On top of that we have thankfully a state funded, but independent TV/Web news and entertainment broadcaster which I think is a real important thing in our democracy. It is part of why I am proud to be from Denmark, but really there is something similar in many European nations – part of their brief is they must make news and entertainment for everyone, so they also cover narrow subjects. You may know the British version which is the BBC or you may even know some of the entertainment content our DR makes, examples are “The Killing”, “Borgen” and “The Bridge”.

I’ve been trying to follow the war in Ukraine. I have great distrust of all the YouTube channels that cover it as I fear many are just creating false narratives and trying to create an income as a YouTube channel. Like the old saying, “Buyer Beware”……the new slogan should be “Watcher Beware”.

Headline has interesting news and you click and nothing about the headline is displayed and if something is, it is glossed over reporting with no details, not even the location of said news story. Sometimes they are spelled right though!

First one has to be astute enough to tell the difference between News and Commentary. Then sample difference news reports and stick with those that have objectivity in their word selection and delivery spin, and whose reports are accurate. If your selected source reports “It’s raining, and because those corrupt city pols didn’t fix the drains, tomorrow it will be flooding”, but you look outside and it’s NOT raining, nor does it flood the following day, find a different ‘news’ source. Fox NEWS, (distinct from Fox Commentary programming), is accurate and reliable. Fox and the BBC are my two primary go-to news sources, with a rotating and occasional sampling of half a dozen more, e.g. NPR; NewsNation; Reuters; Newsweek, etc. I would not trust CNN or MSNBC to reliably or accurately tell me the date and time. NYT has gradually slipped out of objectivity and has sadly tarnished it’s factuality as well.

I never see AP or Reuters mentioned in these threads about the media. Try either. They’re the news feeds the other media use. About as neutral as there is.

If legitimate news sites want to regain believability, they need to refuse the clickbait ads that many now accept.
