Well arguing is a form of talking. Sort of.

For some any kind of conversation is better than no conversation.

For others no conversation is better than a conversation like this.

    We never argue.

    Yes we do.

    No we don’t.

    Yes we DO.

    No we DON’T.

I know of two couples who retired and got divorced within 5 years. I guess 24/7 was a bit much for them.

Many things we enjoy in early years shrink as we age. Activity, scope, conversation, interaction. Takes a bit of hunting and seeking to find replacements that keep the mind sharp and comfortable.

It’s called the age of acknowledgement, adjustment, and accommodation. First one recognizes the change. Then one makes adjustments to life to accommodate the new pattern. The 4th step is acceptance of things one can’t change or improve.

Not always a sad thing nor a happy thing. Just another thing in life.

Earl really wasn’t helpful with Opal’s attempt to have a normal dinner conversation. But Opal didn’t help by playing his childish game with him, either.

I thought about walking across America, then I didn’t. I thought about that redhaired girl I wanted to marry, but didn’t. I thought about six things that I know that would only be useful if I still had my old job. I thought about those cats that would go for long walks in the forest with me …

I knew a couple who always bickered, argued and complained at each other all the time. He passed away. She then talked about what a saint and wonderful person he was and how much she missed him. Hahaha!

My beloved was mad at me so she quit talking to me for a couple of weeks. I thought she was just being moody, so I left it alone. Then she decided I hadn’t noticed so she kept not talking to me for a couple more.

(She never did tell me my sin in the beginning. I wonder if she remembered.)

My parents (married 63 years ) used to look at the Obituaries in the newspaper every morning, and then sit there, for hours, and discuss whether or not they knew the person who had died. And then discuss, if they knew them enough to attend the funeral or send a card. It was conversation, but depressing conversation.

Sounds like husband and I, only I never ask how his day was, same with me, each day too me the same, only difference I have continued my exercise therapy when out patient therapy ended. For my left upper hip and leg. Husband has to help me out. Simple part of each day, I cannot time my shoe laces. My knees will not bed sideways. My shoes I use a shoe horn long handle. Husband does not do what Earl does sleep all day.More special over all, Each day is a blessing as my husband is still here, we celebrate Tuesday 42 years of marriage.
