I guess Sam & Tracy arenāt talking anymore after Tracy shared his Nero Wolfe story with Sam. Otherwise Iām sure Sam could have told Tracy that the bank teller he spoke with in yesterdayās strip identified the robber as having a snake-eyes disguise & spared Tracy having to ask Liz about it today.
The ghoul is a reference to āShenanigansā (sp?), a kiddie game show from the early 60s ā my childhood. Are geezers like myself the target demographic ?
If Iām reading this right, Tracy, and, Sam are back in the squad room, Liz has just returned from investigating a S&L robbery. (Which there arenāt many left any more, having converted to āsavings banks.ā ) But when did the call for this new robbery come in? When we left our heroes yesterday, they were interviewing the teller from the Federal Bank. (Presumably, the sameone the Jones brothers tried to rob in the Wolfe crossover.)
1-DT: Anything happen while I was at BEATING OUT CONFESSIONS WITH EVERYDAY OBJECTS training? LIZ: A couple things. The S&L got robbed andā¦
2- ā¦I took Cha Cha lessons ā see? DT: You look like a spastic Lauren Bacall in the last scene of To Have And Have NotLIZ: Hang on, I got a video messageā¦
3- ā¦Mind if I rest my heavy breast on your head while I display the message. DT: Just donāt mess my hairā¦ OMG OMG OMG! WALTER IS THREATENING REVENGE! Iāll need a 24 hour around the clock personal security detail until that menace is shot from the sky!
LIZ: That doesnāt look likeā¦ DT: Make it 25 hour around the clock. A little overlap canāt hurt!
How did the bank robber āleaveā this ānoteā? On a piece of paper? Then why didnāt Lizz bring the actual note to the lab for analysis? On the wall somewhere? Thatās a fairly elaborate drawing for someone to accomplish while running away. Or did they do it before entering the bank, like I guess they did with the street signs at the previous robbery?
By the way, thanks to all who figured out that this is a second robbery ā Mike could have made that a lot clearer.
So, the snake-eyes robber identifies himself as Gameboy! And he, presumably with his ninja-garbed partner, have now also hit an otherwise-unnamed Savings and Loan. Gameboy has left a note with a rather esoteric reference to a short-lived TV show for kids, albeit with a nice rendering of a bat-winged owl (somehow bringing to mindāfor this Old Guy, anywayāa couple of post-WW II comic book favs, Blackhawk and his team, and Airboy, with his flapping-winged plane, āBirdie,ā not to mention this stripās recent favorite owl, Walter). Our brassy bad guy likes to rub the copsā nose in it, it seems; this brashness could ultimately be his downfall.
I am concerned, however, that this arc as constituted so far, seems to lack a middle, or āSecond Actā; weāve had two bold robberies already as a First Act, and it seems the story (again, as we have it so far) is ready to jump to Act Three, the downfall and capture (or other fate) of Gameboy. For these reasons, I think we have not yet seen the whole cast, specifically on the āvillainā sideā¦.

why does the plain-jane and unglamorous Lizz in panel two remind me of Carol Burnett with that pose?

why is Tracy asking Lizz when it seemed that Sam was the lead detective yesterday. If Lizz was on the scene why didnāt we see her?

For those of you playing at home, you can now mark the āNostalgiaā space on your Mike Curtis bingo card.

Somewhere in the 1960s Batcave, Batman and Robin are getting dressed and the BIFF and POW guy is muttering that heās too old for this.
