I don’t see the point in having a time limit for preparing a meal. A few more minutes can be the difference between a gourmet feast and a plate of glop.
“Great British Bake Off” (US “Baking Show”) does competition best. When everyone’s doing brilliant stuff, yet helping each other out and genuinely sad to see someone else lose – you’re doing something right.
It is one of the great tragedies of our time that the Food Network no longer runs cooking shows; just stupid, fake, “competition” crap. Give me Sara’s Secrets! Good Eats! Food 911! Emeril! (And give me a crew to clean up after I make their recipes, like that have………)
I HATE all “reality” shows; a major factor in the dumbing down of America.
Our house has a nice kitchen – scads of cabinets, a 4×6 foot island with outlets and a cutting board, a five burner range, a double oven and a microwave oven… but it is not set up for two people cooking in anything but cooperation. One refrigerator, one mixer, one sink (a double sink but only one faucet).
We can both work on a dinner (rarely do outside of family holiday dinners) but she leads, I do what she needs done. She is much better at cooking than I am, while I am much smoother and faster on the cleanup as we go. We can look at it this way: we had a competition – not head to head – sometime in the dim past and this is how it came out.

According to TV, the only way to cook a meal is to end in frustration. BAH!

Cooking is overrated. Just follow the directions on the box.

What’s everybody talking about? This could be good – maybe even a three or four day arc.
