I have 5 grandchildren. I tell them to have as much fun as they can as long as it’s legal and they don’t hurt anyone….including themselves.

These days, fewer and fewer want to have kids. Looks like I for one won’t be having any grand-kids as a lot of my generation are finding.

Every one of my grandchildren has had a school assignment to write a paper on their grandparents. They interviewed me and each had the same list of questions the paper needed to answer.

This is true! Kids need to interview their parents and grandparents…for in those minds, are the most valuable memories you’ll ever capture…

Mom’s Father died when she was a teen.Dad’s Mother died when I was an infant. Both parents were first born in their family, so was I, leaving me to be an only child until I was 4 1/2. Grandpa spoiled m,e as we lived under the same roof, he told me lots of stories and we watched the traffic go by, He died when I was 8. Grandma lived in Chicago,(We were in Cleveland), so less day to day stuff. She lived to 91.I didn’t marry until I was 42, but got a chance to introduce her to my then new Husband, when we visited her in the nursing home.

I had a treat from someone else’s granddad. An elderly gentleman noticed I was regularly walking home from church and offered to give me rides instead. Any time veterans were honored in the service, he felt it necessary to explain to me why he hadn’t been up there with them.

He was already running a successful machine shop when WWII started. The government chose to have him stay home and keep running it, making parts for ships and jeeps and guns and all those other things. The government had him employ women, too, and he said that was only awkward at first. The women adapted well and really worked hard. They all had someone in the war who was depending on these parts!

It was a real treat to hear all these old family stories from someone else’s family. And this gentleman was glad to have a fresh audience, too.
