How did Tracy catch up to him so quickly?

Didn’t we recently see a very similar ending to a villian? Where’s the originality?

There’s a whole lot more to point out but let’s give Neil the chance to explain it all to us! LOL!

Did the firetruck splat him, or cut off Tracy’s pursuit? I think the latter.

or did the fire vehicle plow into Maddy, saving Dick the deed of having to apprehend him?…

Good morning™, heart stopping moments !

It would have been neat to see Madcaps mashed by the fire engine. Tracy can hope Sam is on the other side, with a cuffed crook.

There was a gate right there, but he jumped over the fence anyway. Maybe that made it harder for Tracy to catch up because Tracy came in through the gate, but I don’t quite understand panel 2.

Anyway, I’m with Brian, Madsen could have gone “splat,” but I think he ran past it and the firetruck cut off Tracy’s pursuit, if only for a few seconds.

Not quite sure how Tracy got from one side of the fence yesterday, the side opposite the yard that Madsen was jumping down into, to today when he seems to be in the yard on the other side of the fence. Maybe he ran in through the gate between panels, but wouldn’t it have made more sense to wait outside on the street, to head Madsen off? Tracy’s also lucky Madsen didn’t take a shot at him in panel 2.

If he is splatto, will it replace the sweatbox one?

P.2. There should be loud huffing and puffing with the attendant white clouds. That pose is showing Tracy’s age. LOL !

One of these things happened…..

The fire truck terminated Madsen…..

He made it by the fire truck by inches and it’s blocked Tracy, giving Madsen the chance to escape….

Or Sam Catchem has intercepted Madsen (since Tracy gave him a head’s up)…….

Did he beat the fire truck or did the fire truck smash him?

Tracy climbed the fence too. He and Sam must have gym memberships to be able to stay in shape.

Drive the fire truck Tracy and make mashed Banana Brain !!!

The fire truck pulls past and there’s no one on the other side; a clean movie “Bus Pass”

All that… And I still don’t understand what the whole storyline was even about…

Ohhhhhkay…familiar territory. Saw this happen twice on TV shows last over the weekend (assuming he gets aced).

And no, not on reruns of MY MOTHER THE CAR.

dang, he got pass the firetruck… hope that means he didn’t escape yet.

I’VE GOT IT! Through the semi-impressive sorcery of my single delusional brain cell, I KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!

Sam, left unattended (never good thing) has changed to his secret identity as BOW TIE MAN! And…and…he’s leaped onto he back of the fire engine, which simultaneously driving it s one of his Wonder Clones. Seizing a convenient firehouse, he SWINGS dynamically forth to ensnare Madsen in the awesome Pinkies of Justice!

Yeah! But then, he swings too far, overshoots a giggling Madsen, and splats himself ion the front of the truck.

Months of therapy and pastrami work wonders and he SEEMS cured. But then the ‘awesome’ Dill Spear arrives on the scene to perplex and amuse all of Foul Crime!

Run !

This is a poorly conceived plot device so that Tracy does not actually kill. NO fire truck, no matter how much in a hurry, will blow through a stop sign! All emergency vehicles slow down and proceed with extreme caution at turns and intersections

The designated driver of that fire truck will now have some serious explaining to do to his supervisor!

………not unlike the old quip about the guy running frantically to get to Mr. Crapper: Will E. Makit? Will E. Makit?…..so: DID Maddy squeak past that approaching fire engine, or…………/

When Chester Gould wrote this strip, he killed quite a few of his villains. There was a LOT of fuss about that. These writers are trying to tone down the violence . Also. no body means they can ruse the villain again.

Could his end be splat!

Sam scuttles UNDER the fire truck and Dick vaults OVER it!

Oh! The paperwork? Tracy especially over his foot pursuit of Madsen, and, the FireFighters about how Madsen managed to run in front of their truck without them seeing him. Can anyone spell IAD? CRB?

I’m more interested who’s beating it out the OTHER way while they’re peeling Madsen off the front bumper. Madsen came there to kill them and now he’s the distraction that helps them get away.

I’m going to chalk the confusing chase placement to confusing chase sufficient for turning Madsen into Splat-sen currently “Leeching” into the road surface.

3-… Firetrucks have to stop at Stop signs, don’t they? DT: SCREEEEECH!

FIREMAN RICK RACY: Was that a speed bump? FIRETRUCK BOBUCK: Uhhhh…

Wait! It looks like there’s quite a bit of space between the fire truck and Madsen. I think Madson scooted and the truck, naturally, hit the brakes. Thank Goodness, I think Madson was treated unfairly and was basically a nice guy.

Now Madsen is roadkill!

He’s not dead, he got away.

I am of the belief that Madsen crossed safely despite the oncoming fire truck. The passing truck then blocks Tracy’s pursuit for a brief time. (See numerous comments above, including my reply to darkaudit’s first comment of the day.)

Chief of Detectives Tracy may not be the youngest cop on the force, but he is still quite fit physically (probably works out in the Police Gym at least weekly if not daily!)_, and this foot pursuit of Madsen over fences and through debris-strew alleyways is nicely dramatic, especially with the telling reaction headshot closeups Shelley gives us (Leech in panel 2). Ironically, the Fire Department Rescue Unit rushing in response to the TV station fire reported by Sam now in a common trope obstructs the police pursuit of the villainous sprinter, Leeland Madsen. Will he make a “clean getaway,” or will Tracy be able to resume the chase in time to bring him down, one way (blam! blam!) or another?
