Sorry, April, no delicious cornflake flavor, but the lovely leaves lying around on the ground are loaded with bacteria, mold, mildew and various creepy crawlers. Crunch them up, stir them up, throw them into the air, leap into them and breathe deeply!
Soon the leaves will start falling here as well and I can shuffle my way through them, listening to that great rustling sound, enjoying the colors of fall.
Walking to school when I was young, I would intentionally scoot through the piles of leaves that would accumulate on the sidewalks. Before I retired I would walk around the streets where I worked, and when no one was looking, scoot through the leaves that fell from the very old oak trees. Guess that kid in me still remains.
Another thing I like about fallen leaves is that when they become wet and start to decay , they give off a fragrance that evokes old memories growing up too. My favorite Yankee Candle scent is “Autumn Leaves”.
So is it Elly telling her what the leaves are that leads April to spit them out? Because I would think that as soon as she put one in her mouth she’d figure out she wanted no part of where this was going. I guess it’s possible that Elly’s comment happened to coincide with April getting an unpleasant mouthful.

Elly has got to learn when to throw out old cereal if April thinks leaves taste like Corn Flakes.

And the blistering summer heat is over. BTW, is it illegal to burn leaves in Canada?

I used to love walking my girls to & from school in the fall. We’d kick the leaves as we walked, sending them flying. It was loud, messy…and fun.

All the leaves are brown, and the sky is grey….

just because it goes crunch like cereal, doesn’t mean that it is cereal. :J

Turning into corn flakes wouldn’t be that big of a deal. Now FROSTED flakes, that would be great!

I LOVE leaves. Even here in the Mid-Atlantic, where the colors are more spotty. The swoosh factor is everything!
