Dick Tracy by Mike Curtis and Charles Ettinger for November 13, 2023

It’s good to see that The Daily has an online archive. I have sometimes wondered if it was stuck in the past. Tracy seems to be burning the midnight oil at home in his quest to learn more.

It appears that he is looking for stories that contain mentions of both Caxton and Libris in the first part of 1919 (when the Book of Hours was sold to Grandpa Caxton). Tracy has learned something, but we don’t have a clue what that is so far.

“Wonder what archives they have for comic strips? Ah, Mary Worth. Good times.”

Sorry, but that yellow sweater does nothing for Dick’s figure!He looks like one of Gweedo’s goats during mating season!

I wonder if we’re starting the turn around to the real killer or solidifying the case against X?

Is Eric getting paid by the day? That could be the reason this spellbinding saga of mystery, murder and deceit won’t end until the 4th of July, 2025!!!

What’s on the rest of that screen that has Tracy all smirky ?  If those lines outside Tracy’s window are rain why aren’t there any drops on the glass or the sill ?

Nice bird on tree view today in first one. Also a nice top-down angle view in third. Artist is really skilled splendidly in perspective artwork.

It’s not what they tell you…it’s what they leave out.

But our man Tracy loves a mystery. See Tracy. See Tracy do research. See Tracy wear his police academy pullover. I am trying to remember if he is an occasional instructor or a guest lecturer.

Miss Lady points out the subjects or marks, then somebody else sticks it to them. My bad with the unintentional puns.

1919 … wow …. major wars & conflicts around the world … political turmoil & divisions in America … a deadly pandemic sweeping the globe … Thank God all that stuff is behind us!

Tracy’s “moobs” and paunch are startling…too many donuts and coffee, wonder if the MCU gets discounted memberships for the gym….if so, tracy needs to take advantage of that perk

“Police Academy”! I liked Larvell Jones in that. Michael Winslow, his actor, is a hoot!

MEANWHILE: A real “Hmmmmmmm…” moment: HOW much whole has to be injected into the truth before it’s undeniably “nothing but the truth?”………..

What, they demoted Tracy and sent hm back fo school? Wotta’ nerd

Still, this opens a whole new can of potential high school angst. Tune in tomorrow for THE MANY LOVE OF DOBIE TRACY or SHAVED BY THE BELL, in which Our Hero badly nicks himself shaving and is mistaken for ‘Scarface’ McAcne, the school bully. Laugh until your spleen aches as he is relentlessly (and with sitcom panache) hunted down by Sam in the best Barney Fife fashion.

3-DT: Hmmmm. Not what I was looking for but could be interesting… TESS: Dick – the door’s locked. What are you doing in there?

DT: Nothing, honey. I’ll be out in 5…maybe 3…

In panel 3, Dick thinks of Libris: “Interesting. she was telling the truth, but maybe not the whole truth.”

So let’s look at what she said to him in his interview:

October 25: “No. These volumes have not been offered to me.” No, but she has tried to obtain them!

October 27: Referring to Wilhemina Caxton – “We had met on a few occasions…our respective parents and grandparents would have been much closer.” Yes, until they apparently had a falling out over the prayer book!!

October 29: “It would be a very foolish person who tried to take my…” Is the rest of that sentence “…family’s priceless works”?!?

Tracy doing some research by computer, searching The Daily archives, is a sign that this story is set in modern, if not indeed contemporary, times. He has located some story (or stories) relating to the Caxton purchase in 1919, and seemingly ties it in with the Libris family as well. There is something that doesn’t jibe exactly with Xaviera’s telling of the tale, and this may be a useful clue in building a case against her. And that’s where we want to go!
