Not my favorite, their early relationship. I never had a crummy relationship with my big brothers.

Merry Christmas everyone. Looks like G&K are giving us a week of repeat Christmas episodes from 85-90. I don’t think they will be in the cabin when it is New Year’s unless they get completely snowed in. Then they might have to go Donner Party.

And what was the cost of newspapers that carried comics like Luann in 1985?

Is sepia the intended tone, or have these drawings been stored in a cellar in Greg’s basement for the last 30 or 40 years?

Practicality never dies.

Reruns… A little disappointing, but I have to say the strip is colored really well. The fact that the background is not white but has a delicate yellow shade is nice and gives the feeling of an antique thing. This is the strip before Aunt Mildred’s special gift to the family. Puddles! Happy Holidays!

Sometimes, Luann, the least apparent quality of a gift is the best one. When I graduated from Seminary, my wealthy cousin gave me a plastic desk organizer. It was just a pressed out plastic tray with dividers for each item. At the time, I thought my cousin was giving me something too cheap. But that gift has stood the test of time and is still being used, today.

Perhaps a “Funky Winkerbean” semi-reboot of the strip is coming.

Brad and Luann sure have come a long way since the strip first premiered back in the 80s. Now, they’re always happy to be together on Christmas, in spite of their petty differences.

Oh, the hurt and disappointment for Luann at Brad’s gift and switcheroo. Something similar happened to me as a young teenager, and while I hadn’t thought of it in years, this brought the sting of it all back. It’s ok, Luann, this too shall pass :)

And the pencils come with a wonderful manual sharpener.

I’d rather have pencils any Christmas. Cologne gives me a migraine making me feel as if I’ve been whopped upside the head with a baseball bat! She can use the pencils to start writing stories leading to her success in creative writing in later life.

Well, happy vacation to G&K, I suppose. As thinly-disguised reruns go, this is at least better than those weeks of Fogarty Flashbacks.

If Brad hated Luann so much, why couldn’t he admit it instead of bullying her all the time?

Wow, looks like Luann has been getting crappy Christmas gifts from her family her whole life.

Last year her parents gave her a bucket and mop. This year they’ll probably give her her very own toilet bowl brush, and a can of furniture polish.

We don’t get to see the family stacked like cord wood in the tiny lodge trying to sleep.

Luann was 12 at the time. Maybe Brad was 16.

Oh, no! Luann’s first Christmases? No fresh material?
