You know, giving the McClellan family’s strong Scottish roots, I should’ve figured Carl would likely prove to be a Scotsman…the “man” part of that of course being metaphorical here. :P
“The Gaelic for bear is mathan. Celtic families would often have their own animal totem, a tradition that is still evident in the family name McMahon, which means ‘son(s) of the bear’.”- a quote from Google. No need to correct the name.
That last panel made me feel safe and loved. Yes I am HSP
I think Carl is a wolf. Google “wolf Scotland” . He has the right ears and nose, and wolves can have a sort of ruff around their neck, or at least enough ruff-like fur that an imaginary wolf could easily have one. (Keep in mind that Gary does not look like the actual bellboys of times gone by).

The most detailed, realistically drawn character is Wallace’s imaginary friend. Excellent!
In one panel, panel 3, Will Henry has once again proven why WTB is the most positive, caring comic being published today.

Where do I buy the Carl Funko Pop!
Sorry Mr. Henry. You are fast approaching your “Bill Waterson” moment.
Do you keep drawing what you love? Or do you merchandise the HECK out of it?
It is your decision and we will honor it, and you, regardless.
