Sometimes those tests do catch you off guard. Most of the time they will tell you that it is a test before the test, it is the ones that only tell you after the test that it was just a test that get you worried.
For some reason we get a test on the TV most weekdays each week. If we’re lucky we were muted for a commercial so it doesn’t startle us since they are loud.
We get alerts on our phones, but those are always genuine. We haven’t seen/heard one of those tests in quite a while. But then we rarely use on-air TV or radio.
It wasn’t long ago when North Korea was demonstrating the range of its ballistic missiles, and threatening the U.S. There was a test of the EAS in Hawaii, but someone made a mistake, and it was broadcast as a warning, not a test.
In Mexico City, there is a public alarm system which sounds a warning when an earthquake is about to hit. Of course, that only gives you about a minute or so to get out of your building before the trembling begins. Since I have to go down three flight of stairs to get to the street, I usually just stay put and hope that it’s not a bad one!

It’s funny that those emergency broadcast alerts always interrupt the program. Interrupting the commercials would be doing the viewers a big favor!

The highlight of watching recorded shows is figuring out if the alert is recorded or current. They can inject alerts on recorded shows.
