Even though he considered this work to be his Moona Lisa, this artist never became world famous like Moochelangelo or Edvard Moonch.

Farmers and animal breeds often had professional paintings made of their most prized livestock and dogs. They placed them on a wall separate from family portraits, and were very proud of both. I have seen those (as photographs) in some old farmhouses around where I used to live.

For some reason, I connect the following Gertrude Stein bit with that:
