That would have been a compliment today!

I don’t remember people using GOAT to mean “greatest of all time” until at least the ’90s. Certainly back in the ’70s it primarily had the connotation that Lucy is hinting at.

A late mention of Shermy! The copyright says 1977. Is that right? He disappeared from the strip years before that, didn’t he?

I wish GoComics could show original publication date for Peanuts and other strips that are in reruns.

I see that there was a discussion in the comments a few days ago as to whether Charlie Brown is bald or not. The following three strips serve as evidence that he DOES have hair – 1. August 8th, 1958: Charlie Brown announces that he is on his way to get his hair cut, and Linus wishes him a nice haircut. This one is so self-evident that it needs no comment. 2. June 15, 1967: Peppermint Patty tells Charlie Brown that there is a bug in his hair. Somehow, it appears clear that she is referring to a full head of hair here, instead of just a couple of strands. 3. October 15, 1996: If you enlarge the strip, you will SEE Charlie Brown’s hair for yourselves! It’s been mussed up in such a way that ALL of it is plainly visible – not just the tufts at the front and the back. You can actually see his full head of hair! So, there you have it – Charlie Brown definitely has hair.

GOAT . . . Greatest Of All Time?

Designated hitter—pah! Pitcher should bat, like real men. When MLB forced the DH down the NL’s throat, that was for me a bridge too far. I said goodbye to baseball.

Nice to see that Charlie Brown is back pitching a game!

It is a relief to see that Ruby DIDN’T kill Charlie Brown yesterday. He must have just been knocked unconscious!

But C.B. must have a big bruise on his head that that conveniently large baseball cap is covering up!

When people started using GOAT for “Greatest of All Time” I got confused because I kept thinking back to this.

Rare to mention Shermy in a 1970’s Peanuts comic strip when he wasn’t seen much since circa late 1960’s.

Hoo-boy! The score looks pretty one-sided, doesn’t it?

I do not think this was written by Charles Schulz. When he made the Peanuts comic there was no designated hitter in baseball.

Charlie Brown is both. Arguably the greatest cartoon character of all time. He also experienced a lot of grief, mostly from Lucy.

I understand the acronym, but I still don’t like the way it sounds.
