You’d think Calvin’s conscience could’ve kicked in some time after lunch and he’d want to do the homework, instead of waiting until when getting in bed to hit.
I always found grade school math to be a breeze. It wasn’t until high school that it started getting challenging. Even then I always thought it was fun. With Calvin’s imagination and inventiveness math should come easy to him too. He’s just being influenced by the negative attitudes toward math in society at large.
The trick to procrastination is learning how long the task will really take and deciding how early you want to finish. In college I learned to write the 1000 word paper in about 4 hours including research.

If Calvin was given the rest of his life to do his homework, he still wouldn’t do it.

And it’s too late baby now, it’s too late
Though we really did try to make it
Something inside has died, and I can’t hide it
And I just can’t fake it
Oh, no, no, no (no, no, no)

Calvin should sneak downstairs again, get his homework, and come back upstairs and do it in bed. That way, his parents won’t find out

Calvin has Maslow’s theory upside-down. What we want to do is supposed to be given less time, not all of it.

Take it in your stride, Calvin. You have spent the whole day doing your own. There are older people dreaming to spend the day, that way.
