I can’t remember how old I was but I know I was rereading this strip when it occurred to me that I was probably older than Calvin’s parents. Having grown up with the strip, that was something of a shock.

What’s he complaining about? He gets to snuggle with her.

Snuggling is good, to be snuggled is also good….and you get to snuggle back.

“So what do I get to snuggle?” Really?!?

Hug her back! Then you’ll both feel secure.

You are the older of your ‘pair’, ‘Dad’, and the defender of the family ! ! ! !

To add a concurrence to the voices above: dude, if you’re wondering what you get to snuggle, consider the attractive woman in a negligee in bed with you with her arms wrapped around you. I would say she’s a good candidate!

Stupid question!

This is one of my favorite “non-Calvin” strips.

You get to snuggle with your wife.

I’m glad that we got moments like this to sympathize with Calvin’s parents. They’re doing their best!

This arc is the one time I’ve really found Calvin’s parents to be sympathetic characters in their own right.

Are you kidding! There’s nothing better and more comforting than snuggling with your wife.

Dad qualifies as a big stuffed animal.

The answer is right in front of you.

Grown-ups learn mutual snuggling.

Maybe Calvin will share Hobbes with Mom ;)

I love how this arc also focuses on the parents and their reactions to the break-in… it really hits home.

This strip, sans both Calvin and Hobbes, points up an interesting feature of this feature: outside of Calvin’s fantasy world, everything is perfectly normal, with no fantasy and no one even doing anything unusual or even funny.

Will Dad admit that having a stuffed animal to snuggle builds character?

I always thot that, if Calvin’s mom had been a real person, she’s exactly the sort I’d have been attracted to.

You snuggle with her. Duh.

Does anyone wonder why Calvin has no siblings?

I’d suggest a mutual snuggle – but carried to excess that could result in another Calvin (cringe).

She’s just taking advantage of the situation.
