My dad used to use one of those to mow our lawn in the early-1970s.

Luckily — by the time I was old enough to take over the mowing as part of my chores — he’d upgraded to a gas-powered push mower.

No, it grew while you were learning to maintain your mower.

I mowed our lawn with one of those when I was a teenager. Luckily it wasn’t a huge lawn.

If you didn’t leave it out in the rain, and kept the blades sharp, it was great for a typical small lot.

I saw one for sale in the lawn mower department in Home Depot. And yes, before gas powered lawnmowers arrived in the late 60s, I made a lot of gas money cutting lawns with one for 50 cents. That is when gas was less than 20 cents a gallon.

Just give that mower to Karl Childers and he’ll sharpen those blades real good.

Keep them oiled and sharp, and don’t let the grass get too deep, and they will work easier.

Now they’re coming back into favor, because they’re a “green” choice!

They are ok on anything but Bermuda grass. Then size really doesn’t matter, every inch is pure evil.

Start with WD-40 and 3-In-One oil. I was in grade school and my aunt had me mow her yard with a self propelled gasoline reel mower. It had no shields or safety features. If it got loose, it ran around like the ones in Disney and MGM cartoons.

Peter should take his shirt off while mowing. He’ll be more comfortable and as a bonus the girls will be watching.

My Gram lived in section 8 housing that had very small back yards and she had one of those old mowers and us grandkids would go over and do it for her. I actually thought it was fun but I know I wouldn’t like it if her grass was a bigger area.

We had one of those when I was little. By the time I was mowing, we had a gas mower. But as an adult, I once had the extra special great joy of getting to mow my mom’s lawn with a scythe. That was surprisingly fun!
