Don’t tell her that there is a cartoonist that is documenting her whole life. She might crack.

Most memorable: one day. Most memorable that’s not self-incriminating: one day. Doesn’t narrow it down at all.

The memorable day might just (have to) be the most recent one.

She has a lot to chose from. But the teacher will label it fantasy.

Nothing that isn’t incriminating is interesting

Last night I was telling my daughter another daredevil tale from my youth and she replied *How are you not dead?".

When my son was in about the third grade he was asked to write an essay one something interesting he did over the summer.

He wrote about the time he flew to McDonald’s for lunch.

The teacher told us that it was a well-written essay, but that she had asked the children to write about what they actually did and not some fantasy story.

We told her it was true. There was an airport called the Tewksbury-McDonald airport. It was a small strip, about 15 minutes flying time from the base where I was a member of the aero club. We’d land, taxi the airplane to the grass, and go through a chain linked fence into the McDonald’s parking lot. We’d get our Big Macsa and Happy Meals and sit on the picnic benches and watch other airplanes try to land (it was a challenging field to get into).

Hey teach, fun and essay don’t mix.

I learned to be cautious about questions some to the stories my students wrote. Many of their fathers were watermen on Chesapeake Bay and had experienced a few of the oyster wars and the travails of crabbing. The Bay could sometimes become dangerous, as could the ocean east of Wallops Island.

Danae would need to manufacture something ‘self-incriminating.’ Most of her fluffs are errors in judgement and are usually repaid with disappointment.

That’s similar to the question “Have you ever been convicted of a crime?” “Convincted . . . no never convicted”

Is this a rare cameo of the fun pajama wearing friend with the pony tail sitting next to Danae in class?

Danae could write about one of her trips with Capt Eddie. It would incriminate him, but not her.

At 57, I’m lucky to remember what I had for lunch yesterday…

I suppose I would have had a few when I was that age, but now, so many to choose from! I feel blessed to have had so many great adventures. Here’s to a few more before I cash it in!

Best to get your priorities right and set the ground rules.

I have so many memorable days that are by nature self-incriminating. What’s the fun otherwise?
