A little disappointing. After John talks about the autopsy on Farley, it would be nice if Elly reciprocated and gave the doctor’s report on April. That was what I was expecting.
This takes me back to mgl179"s theory from a few days ago (quoting now): At best it’s a accusation for child endangerment Not talking about the doctor for April does raise the issue whether or not they went to the doctor, because, you know, doctors ask too many questions. A visit to the doctor would have alleviated any concerns about the effect of the cold water on April and I think the readers might be interested in that.
The comic strip seems to have jumped past that, so I will too. The stars look great from the inside. I guess this means, they turned out all the lights in the house and the house is in some kind of remote neighborhood where there is not much light from other houses. Let’s grant that all that is true. I wonder why they aren’t going outside to see the stars. Oh right, with Farley gone there’s no one left to keep an eye on April.
They look at the stars through a window that cannot maintain the same shape, size, or even relative distance to the floor. Why are they looking at the stars? They should be looking at this bizarro shape-changing window.
I also note that we are seeing a secondary storyline where Gramma Carrie does not actually bond with her grandkids during the time she had them by herself, but had to wait until a family tragedy to do it. If that’s what it takes to get a hug from gramma…
Maybe it’s just me, but I hate the fact that Elly and Carrie never took April to the hospital. It’s like Johnston only wanted to focus on the life of Farley and his great deed.
It’s a great deed, don’t get me wrong but there were a lot of factors that was either skipped or not planned out well enough.
No matter how much time has passed, April will probably have mental anxiety or survivor’s guilt, and at such a young age. Even if it’s never brought up again, it will always be there. Maybe it’s why she achieved her dreams at the end (read the epilogue, sorry for the spoiler). That’s all from me for now.
It seems like there were more installments to the original Farley saga than what we just saw this time around. There are no doubt a few out there who could clarify one way or another.
Farley’s story should end with a hero’s memorial for him having saved April and showing the Pattersons being criminally punished for neglect and endangerment for their part in letting April run unsupervised in the storm.

I bet that Elizabeth is imagining Farley up there among all those stars.

Why are you all fighting over this? Don’t you realize this comic is on repeat? This happened almost 30 years ago in 1995.

If they didn’t say “grandma“, we might think it was Connie.

So, is Appo now speaking standard English or will she be reverting back to baby-talk?

I think the only thing that detracts from these comics are the ability to post comments on them.

Comic strips should be funny and happy. Ergo, this would be a good one.
John: Elly, are you sure about this?
Elly: We don’t have a choice, John. In Canada the government makes all our decisions for us, and this was the doctor whom OHIP pays for.
Mad Scientist: Mr. & Mrs. Patterson, I saved Farley! All I took was a simple transplant operation.
Pattersons then see an April-headed Farley and a Farley-headed April

At least when April was pulled from the river she had a new hairdo and stopped looking like a pen is!

my point of view: this is a sweet way to honor dealing with loss. no micro-analysis needed

Think Elizabeth’s nightgown is frumpy enough? It would have been behind the times when Grandma was her age, I think.

How about an outline of Farley in those stars? Or would that be laying it on too thick?
