From Lynn’s Comments: Throughout this series, I received advice from vets and individuals on how to train my dog to bark when he wanted to come in and to refrain from barking at inappropriate times. The result was that, except for when the snowplow came, he never barked at all.
Uh-oh, Elly…From Edgars facial expression and stride into the house, it sure seems as if you’ve just reinforced the behaviour of digging in the flowers to opening the door…
We trained out cat to ring bells hung on a rope by the door to be let out – we have motion activated cameras outside and when the cat comes back to the front door to be let in, the camera lets us know. We live in the country and she doesn’t wander far and is afraid of cars, trucks and tractors – when they are coming she is at the storm door batting on the glass to be let in…
Reminds me of how a certain famous TV personality attracted the attention of a snooty waiter staff in a snooty restaurant—-he lit a cigarette while waiting.
My VERY LAST comment on John supposedly strangling Farley. His hands were cradling Farley’s face, his thumbs were not pressing on Farley’s larynx. , In fact his left hand is actually cradling Farley’ right side of his face. His right thumb is also on the left side of Farley’s face and the fingers are under his left ear. Stop just stop with the stupidity once and for all.

I hold my own dog’s face like that a lot, as a form of affection. often slightly rubbing the back of her ears in the process. She loves it.

Edgar thinks, “SIGH” for the first time in dealing with Elly. He’s getting to be so much like his father.

The best thing they could do, of course, is put in a doggy door. Problem solved.

Ha, ha! Serves her right! BTW, how do the neighbors feel about her trying to teach the dog to bark outdoors at all hours?

Smart dog. But be grateful at least he is adding the water and fertilizer in your flowerbed, instead of in your lettuce and tomatoes garden.
