The Great Escape

I thought about doing that many times. Just before a Colonoscopy comes to mind.

A few grass clippings between the toes. That’s all it takes to relieve the withdrawal symptoms.

Sterling would have gnawed his way through the wall by now.

And spend the rest of his life on the run, or be recaptured and have more time added on to his sentence?

Spud is pondering how to express how grateful he is for her kind correction of his misdeed and life lesson. Amelia is planning her revenge. And it might include a pan of green goop.

Seems like a lot of kids in detention.

Looks like Spud is twiddling his thumbs.

“Jail Break”

De tension is getting really high in there.

I was in my grand-daughters elementary school the other day, for 1st grade promotion.

As we went through the cafeteria you could see how they had lunch detention set up. All the tables and chairs were on one side of the room, like you’d expect. Then they had six other chairs, in those little, kid sized cubicles set up along the far wall, on the other side of a barrier of portable, temporary walls.

I could just imagine the poor kids sitting there, separated from the main herd. Made my wife and I think of the Group W bench, from “Alice’s Restaurant” (You remember Alice).

How long is recess detention? Fifteen to thirty minutes tops?

I never had detention but it seems a very unproductive time for the kids: stay silent, do nothing. Like a collective timeout.

Yes, we have all had those fantasies at one time or another. However, we just grin and bear it, as will Wallace….

Ah yes, I was such a daydreamer. Didn’t get in trouble much. Did have to stay and write a bunch of times that I wouldn’t do something (the teacher told me it really shouldn’t apply to me but she didn’t want to seem to be playing favorites. I was okay with it, I should have known better and done better.)

You can imprison my body but my imagination is still free!

As awesome as smashing through the window like that would be, it’s typically not that easy, and given Wallace’s still-young build and size, I’d sooner expect he’d just bounce ineffectively off the window in reality.

Still…that’s what daydreaming is for. :D

My daydream usually involved the Steve McQueen motorcycle scene at the end of the great escape.

I think I saw this in a movie once, “Free Wally”.

Hang in there, Wallace, I’m sure you’ll be paroled in 15 minutes.

Tomorrow’s strip should have Spud daydreaming of sitting next to Amelia shyly holding her hand.

And the day after, Amelia dreaming about getting to the roof to the roof to drop a pumpkin. Maybe Spud holding the ladder.

Didn’t Will Henry say at the beginning fo this story line that it was based on something that happened to him? This is a great story so far.
