Those hours of solitude definitely help when you’re not a morning person. By the time everyone else gets up I can greet them pleasantly instead of barking at them.

I gotta give Arlo credit, it would hard for me to be so terribly pleasant and cheery each morning knowing such a sour attitude is awaiting me in the morning such as what Janis is portraying in the last panel when she wakes up and walks down stairs. I mean, just look at the smile on Arlo’s face in the 3rd panel of today’s story!

Everything will change when Janis tries to take that hot coffee cup from Arlo while he has the handle.

Good thing you have that cup ready, looks more like a rain cloud than sunshine. The company you want will be good, shortly.

My early morning solitude includes the coffee, our Labrador Retriever, Lily, and a rubber ball. I assume this still qualifies as solitude.

I can relate. I’ve had my first cup of coffee and I’m listening to my wife snore as I type this comment.

As a bachelor I never experienced that early morning solitude, then I married.

Reminds me of our visits to Orlando when the kids were small. I would make coffee, go fetch a paper from the front office of the hotel. (Days Inn and Suites near OBT and Bee Line) and sit and drink coffee, read the paper and eat cinnamon buns purchased the day before. wave to all the employees as they start their day. It was a magical time.

If they build a new place it could be all on one level. Stairs eventually become problematic.

Arlo should just leave Janis alone until she comes outside to talk to him. She looks pretty grumpy in the morning.

I love in winter when it’s just me, a cup of coffee, a cat on my lap and the wood stove casting a soft orange glow while it burns logs. Love it.

I have always been an “early bird,” and when I was delivering newspapers at 10 years old, the period leading up to sunrise was my favorite time to be out… hearing the birds slowly stirring, the air was crisp, and clean, and the world was just waking up.

Any time my girl walked into the room regardless of the time of day my heart did flip-flops at the sight, sound, feel or warmth of her. She’s gone to ovarian cancer these four years now and I still await her appearance.

I’m a morning person, and the person who wants to go on road trips with me is a night person. Between his late starts and side trips, we barely get to the next hotel before the front desk closes at 11 or midnight. I like to see the sunrise from my windshield and get started before traffic. Is that so wrong?

My next road trip is to this person’s home town of Philadelphia. So you would think he would believe “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.”
