Elly’s perspective:

Guilt — Because Elizabeth is guilty of wanting to break up with Anthony in the first place. If she starts kicking guys away, she could end up as an old maid.

Jealousy — Because Elizabeth knows that Elly is much more knowledgeable about love than Elizabeth could ever be, and she is jealous.

Embarrassment — Because Elizabeth said the word “and” and left out the “d” sound with “an’”

Sometimes it takes a while for the truth to sink in.

Translation: “You’re not sympathizing with me.”

Anthony is not worth it. Trust me on this.

In other words—Elly is putting all the blame on Elizabeth—and rightfully so, I suppose.

I’m with Liz on this. Talk about a lack of empathy, Elly

She’s just angry that she stepped in her own sht.

Mother knows from experience…

Elly forgot “delusions of grandeur”. Ha-ha-ha!!

She understood perfectly, you just hate her answer

Elizabeth: Why couldn’t I have been born to a mom who was born THIS century?

The truth hurts sometimes.

But she does — you’re the one who needs a clue!

Good try. No way mom could score.

Elly is correct, but just like her daughter, she’s not real subtle about it. Maybe that’s what’s needed in this situation. It’s tricky talking to a teenager when emotions are involved.

Moms- Agree that Candace is an evil backstabbing two-faced t_rd. Even if you don’t agree with your child’s point of view, let the child vent without appearing to judge.

At least partly true.

She understood perfectly.

D@mn, it sucks when a parent is right, doesn’t it Elizabeth?

It’s worse, Elizabeth: you know that she understands entirely too well.

Never underestimate the human capacity for denial of the truth. Ellie nailed it.

And ten years later it’s “Paul dumped me for another woman!”

She didn’t want him and she doesn’t want anybody else to have him.

I would sympathize with Liz except for one thing, Ya had it coming ! ;-)

Now to deal with Michael going around saying “Farley! Oh Farley? Where are you, Farley?”

Elizabeth is in denial. She knows, deep down, this whole situation is all her fault. Candace played her and she allowed it.

Meanwhile, Elly’s inwardly celebrating because now Liz isn’t dating anyone, just like when she schemed to break up Michael & Martha, and will exile April to Winnipeg to screw in her and Gerald’s relationship!

Liz doesn’t want understanding, she wants sympathy. “You poor thing! Here have a cookie.”

If I were Ellie I’d wish my sweet little Liz-Beth back. Teen separation angst is so difficult. Not many parents can do it. Lizzy just wanted sympathy not analyzing.

Hormones are a dangerous thing.

I think Elly was just trying to recap and Elizabeth didn’t give her time to show any compassion. I’m a therapist and it’s a technique many therapists use with clients…it’s basically asking if I heard you right.

Elly totally nailed it. Teenage girls and some women just can’t handle the truth.
