I’ve never understood the idea of not keeping the physical media, given that there are several ways anything stored on a computer can be wiped out.
And don’t get me started on movies/TV on streaming services. Not only can you rely on the services to keep the movies/TV (Max has purged their site several times), but the versions they stream are sometimes sub-par (Disney+, for example, streams the horribly redubbed version of “Darby O’Gill and the Little People”; thank God I have it on DVD).
And when the streaming media services takes off your favorite songs, what then? At least you own physical media instead of a “license” that can be revoked at any time.
I don’t care what they do to their own CDs, but I sure hope they pick the pieces up off the ground when they are through demolishing them. There will be a lot of sharp shards that can cut people and wildlife. They won’t degrade for a few hundred years.
CD’s we’re not even in stereo! Or any of the phone blue tooth radio apps. FM is just not what it use to be either. This is one area of our technologies that is not improving!
y’know what’s really cool? With the lights out in your kitchen, take an old CD, put it in the microwave shiny side up, set the timer for 2 seconds, press start and enjoy the show!
Yeah, lets destroy your music collection that you already PAID FOR so you can pay $18/month for Spotify that has “remixed” EVERY FREAKING SONG and plays a muddied down low res version for your never ending bill.

The same thing happened to 78 rpm records a long time ago.

I still have a couple hundred CDs. And about as many 78s, 45s and 33⅓s. And one 16⅔.

Trap Shooting CD’s is not enough of a challenge! For a real challenge, shoot those little 45-to-78 record adapter thingys!

Shooter looks just like Walz, except Walz couldn’t load his shotgun.

If the internet ever goes down, you’ll wish you had those CD’s again.

Remember the Disco Sucks rally in Detroit back in the 80s? There were a LOT of CDs destroyed at that bash.

With the value of china place settings being almost nothing, I keep waiting to see someone doing this with their china pattern.

I still have every CD, LP, and 45 I’ve bought in my lifetime. Never plan on getting rid of them.

I have a thousand or so CDs and will continue to hang onto them. I like the succinctness of a CD or album versus just streaming.

So these people have made the transition to MP3 and all, or is THAT too olde now?

Like records they are making a comeback. The sound is so much better than streaming. I appreciate streaming. But love my records and CDs.
