Money for nothing and coats for free

Sorting, yeah.

It changed. From walking around money to pocket money.

Different motive?

A favorite from the movie, “The Bank D!ck” (1940), starring W.C. Fields and Shemp Howard:

Egbert Sousé: [Fields at the bar] Was I in here last night and did I spend a twenty dollar bill?

Joe Guelpe: [Howard, a bartender] Yeah.

Egbert Sousé: Oh boy, what a load that is off my mind! I thought I’d lost it.

This year I found a fiver and a pair of wired earbuds.

That $20 isn’t worth as much as it would have been if he had spent it at the time.

A year or two ago I found $60 in traveler’s cheques in storage in my apartment that I could have used had I known about them a few years before.

Instead of nagging, Janis found a better way to get Arlo to sort through his winter wardrobe.

He isn’t looking for walking around money. He looking for money to buy a half tank of gas.

I found $600 doing that one time.

A long, long time ago I found a half-crown in the turn-up of my trousers.(For my American friends: I found a silver coin of the largest denomination, worth about 35 cents, in the cuff of my pants.)

It’s usually only old CVS receipts for me.

A friend of mine lost his Vietnamese wife at a fairly middle age. She was prone to tucking away a $20 or $50 in a shirt, dress, or coat pocket because of her meager upbringing. After she passed away before he would throw away any of her clothes he had to check the pockets of all of them. He told me he came up with over $10,000.

I used to plant $ in the clothes I gave to Goodwill or Salvation Army but with all the “resellers” these days, I stopped.

Score for you, Arlo. Pretty sweet find.

I love it when that happens

I notice Arlo has absolutely no compunction, whatsoever, to explain this sudden “sorting” to Janis :0) . Why would one sort jackets in the first place? They’re in the closet ready to be used depending upon the weather. Unless, that is, you have sooooooo many jackets for each season you can’t fit them all into one closet. In that case, I’d say that you’re fortunate to have that as a first world problem.

I was going through some of my old papers and found a five dollar bill stashed in a card that someone had sent me for graduating high school in 1971. Considering that’s worth almost forty bucks today, I felt guilty for never thanking them. I also felt like an idiot for never spending it. I gave it to my granddaughter.

A long time ago, I found $380 worth of traveler’s checks in my winter coat. Fortunately, still valid.

I just found a pair of gloves in a coat pocket. I’d been looking for them for over a month!

About 15 years ago, I lost $10,000.00 and a boyfriend at the same time. No regrets.

I find lint and sales receipts.

T’is the season. $%*@ spell check. Took me 3 tries to get my phone to accept it.

I get excited when I find a wrinkled up, washed single in my jeans; a twenty would send me over the moon

My dad and my husband used to do the same thing. Just another way to save for “a rainy day”!

In my youth I had a friend who, every time she bought pot, would roll a joint and hide it. Housecleaning might start a drag, but seldom that way (“Oh – look what we have here!”)

He looking for another bonanza……

He just needed the right incentive.

That’s just one of the best feelings, when you find that rumpled up bill

Not quite…..

I do this at thrift shops. You would be surprised how many people donate coats and purses without checking them thoroughly.

If he tells her why she’ll start hiding one in his pocket every season to get him to keep doing it
