If that sounds implausible, kid – there’s a point in the central pacific where, for one hour in every 24, it’s one day to the northwest, the next day to the northeast and the day after THAT to the south.

And around that area, if you so chose, you could skip any day on the calendar entirely. Or, indeed, experience the same full day twice.

And if that’s not weird enough, to the Ozzies the moon looks upside-down!

Not so hot today, it only got to 23° today. But for reference it’s 8:25 pm Eastern as I post.

I remember how weirded out I was when my family returned stateside from the Philippines. We had landed in Hawaii 15 minutes before our departure time from Clark AFB, P.I. of the same day. That International Date Line can really mess with you.

This reminds me of an American woman on TikTok asking “If Europe is 7 hours ahead of us, then why can’t they tell us all the bad things that are going to happen so we can prevent them before it gets to us”. Incredible how some people can be so dense.

Time is a human concept. We think that Australia is a day ahead of us, when it is not. It is only because there is sunshine there, versus night time here. If I call someone in Australia and speak with them, I am not speaking to the future.

flerf alert! I know, I know, these kids are in like early grade school years, but I’m pretty sure when I was a kid we all had that Mercator world projection map next to the blackboard in our classrooms, and the equator business (differences between north and south of) was all explained to us, at least more than once.

I found it interesting to play a game with someone in Austrailia online while I reside in Michigan…no lag! 16 hour time difference!
