This comic is a reference to how people who rescue baby birds feed them using a hand puppet designed to resemble a bird of the same species to prevent them from imprinting on the scientists.

I realized the reference as a child because I remember seeing a photo of some scientists feeding a condor chick with a puppet in a different book.

The first panels about his mother reminds me of an old episode in Sponge Bob I think from 2006 or something, Squidward was as big as the mother of Calvin and Sponge Bob was scared.

Today’s “Curtis” (not on gocomics) had Curtis talking about how he wants to be a horror fiction writer when he grows up, so he’s going to bed because he wants to have a nightmare in order to get ideas. This C&H strip should do the trick.

I have had some dreams before that were so vivid and real that when I woke up, I wasn’t sure if I was truly awake; still believing the contents from the dream were real. It is unsettling until all the dream weaving is untangled and you’re fully conscious.
