Caulfield, charts and the data they present are not one and the same thing. I’d flunk you for trying to pull something that dumb.

It’s obvi. One is a Pie bar chart and the other is a Bar pie chart.

He’s sailing into uncharted water!

That’s why logicians and grammarians speak of different “senses” of a particular term.

Flip this around – I had a teacher who would have shown a play-on-words like this, because it’s a teachable moment about the difference between the format of the presentation and the data it presents. And having taught intro computer science courses, where I had to explain the difference between pointers and multi-indirect-pointer structures and the data being pointed to, some people just don’t get it. Caulfield, of course, not only gets it but braids it into a hat.

Caulfield plays on words like some play on musical instruments – just noodling along, following strands of thought, and coming up with a challenge.

I think this is brilliant, and I’m surprised nobody’s ever done it before. But I’m taking a screenshot of it because I’m sure I’ll have occasion to use it on my fellow math geeks in the future.
