now its 2000 channels and still nothing to watch, and network TV is easier to just not watch, every storyline is the same and about a topic that is near and dear to the producers and only to the producers
My issue is I’ll pause what I’m watching to do something elsewhere in the house, end up doing 3 other things also, only to come back and have forgotten what I was watching.
When I found nearly half my viewing time was taken up by advertising when watching a show or a program was when I turned the TV off. I think the next time it will be turned on will be for the Superbowl….which, ironically, is known for the commercials they show.
We have in excess of 1000 channels on Bell Satellite. once you remove all the french, multiple repeaters for CTV, CBC, Global and a few other broadcasts from boonieville you have 17 channels. We PVR/DVR all our choices and the little yellow 30 second skip button has saved our sanity. Still love Discovery, Home (used to be HGTV but out cheap providers will not pay the freight for that) and the like. Mostly CTV, GLOBAL, ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX.
My problem is that there are too many programs I want to watch! I haven’t turned on the television yet today, but was in the middle of “All Through the Night” (1942) starring Humphrey Bogart, as well as “Dead of Night” (1945) starring Mervyn Johns. Then there is also last night’s episode of “Elsbeth” and … so many more waiting for me.
In ‘The Paradox of Choice’ Barry Schwartz examines just why too many choices is way worse for decisions than too few – and in our “modern” society, too many choices in almost every context is the norm.
SO many streaming services, YouTube alone… so many things to watch… and that’s just counting the things that are (more-or-less) worth watching! Bottomless pit of trash stuff.
A girl in middle school once told me: “Come on over tonight – everything’s off except the TV.” At that tender age I was afraid to take her up on her invitation. : /

Considering some of the shows, a test pattern is more entertaining.
How many of you remember those?

My television gets turned on less than once a week, but I’m allergic to advertising, excessive lying, loud noises, and try to avoid.

Usually if my wife is watching television I am out of earshot. It’s going to be something awful.

Hopefully they skip over Emilia Perez or It Ends With Us…

Has the new network TV season begun yet? Back in the good ol’ days it started in September.

I bet Arlo would enjoy “Severance.” Not entirely sure about Janis, though.
