Steve’s blog has indicated all day that the Wednesday Masterpiece (#3464) would be “Coffee in the Garden,” by (once again) Daniel Ridgway Knight. I will set aside the limerick I wrote for that painting and look for the ones I composed the last time the above image appeared, because I’m pretty sure it is a repeat.

Ugh, the FTP system has confounded me again! I had accidentally uploaded this repeat a couple days ago, then (thanks to mabrndt) realized my error and proceeded to upload the correct file (the one that’s on the blog). That usually fixes the problem, but not this time, apparently. I’ve once again uploaded the correct file just now, so the post may change overnight, or it may not. Apologies for the confusion. Fingers crossed the rest of the week posts correctly.

The faint noise gave the cleaning maid unease

She thought she heard what sounded like a sneeze

So in usage of her feather duster

With all the courage she could muster

She touched the statue posed nude on its knees

    .

“It’s cold in here,” the statue did complain

“And your feathers have tickled me to life again

And here I am all naked and disgusted

That my once nubile body needs to be dusted

Oh, the shame that came of being vain!”

    .

“What goddess I offended I am not sure

I tried to keep my public reputation pure

Indeed I tried to keep modestly clothed

So little of my bare body showed

And I strived to appear ever demure”

    .

Of all the jealous and lustful divinities

Who might have spied her nude bathing vicinities

The poor statue did not claim to know

And weeping poured forth its tale of woe

Like many who had tried guarding their virginities …

I was at this moment the ‘model’ suddenly realized she was feeling ’’all warm and tingly". It was also at this moment the artist, Alfred Steven, made one of his finest phallic paintings.

Alfred Stevens was known for painting modern women but this lady looks like she’s from WAY back.

The new maid is clearly “nonplussed”/

At what she’s expected to dust/

    It’s an odious chore/

    That she dares not ignore,

For a housemaid must do what she must.

What shows here now is a different caption repeat of the June 28, 2024, strip. Other than some of the search engines I say to use in my comment there no longer work (they find the Wikipedia instead of the Wikimedia Category first, at least one doesn’t find the correct one at all), you can use a search engine that does abide by that comment to find info about the artwork.

If the strip now shows the Daniel Ridgway Knight artwork,

    Coffee in the garden

    Paste (including the quote marks)

    "Category:Undated paintings" Wikimedia

(syntax supported by the Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, and Brave search engines) in the browser address bar (or search for it using one of those search engines) and choose the first Wikimedia Category: found and once there find the text string Knight, and click its link for info and links that point to more info about this painting.

Again, a larger strip image is shown by (Ctrl- or right-) clicking the image in Mr. Melcher’s MASTERPIECE #3464 (February 18, 2025) blog entry, accessible by the Check out the blog! box after the last comment, and using the dropdown menu (even larger, if you trim what’s after .png from the URL). I have added a comment there pointing to the blog entry with my comment and reply pointing to info about this artist I used to point to here. So far, 12 works by this artist have been used here, the February 18, 2025, strip bring the prior.

Who can look at that painting and honestly say that they could resist the temptation to engulf that statue’s face in her duster.
